Turtlezhu! Holiday Inn is safe to stay. It is one of the largest hotel chains. I have stayed Holiday Inn Chicago during my trip. The room was neat and clean. It provides a Great service. The staff members are friendly.

dont think chiangmai have downtown eh....only know the night market eh.

When I visit CM I always stay at my friend's house. Haha. He even loan me a motorbike even though I don't have a license for that.

Anyway to be near the night market area, Princess or Lé Meridian hotel is good.

Lé Meridian is at the heart of the shopping belt. :)

Make sure you have your SPG card with you if you intend to stay there. You can get free WiFi. And oh don't forget to get a TrueMove H Sim from the immigration form counter. The Sim is free with 10Baht credit inside and I think 10mb of data.

Have fun. Its a really really really nice place to be.

you gg in dec? heard that weather is very cold in dec period

It will be like Genting if you are in the city area but if you are driving to the mountain top make sure that you have some strong chillers.

Oh, remember to buy their avocados if you do head up the hills or their Tom Yam sweet biscuit. They are really nice and cheap too!
Biscuit, 10Baht, avocado if I am not wrong 20Baht for just 1 kg.

And one last tip. Its always good to rent a car there as their open air red taxi driver may not know where do you intend to go. Haha, but if you speak good Thai or have a friend that can speak their language then by all means use their taxis. :)

If you are renting your car don't rent one from the airport. Their charge ridiculous amount. Approx $70 for a day. I always go to the city centre and rent an auto Yaris for $40 SGD per day with comprehensive insurance included.

Once I even hit the back bumper and dented it (the car have got no reverse sensor like in SG lol) but the boss (a lady) was really nice, didn't extort a huge amount for me and only want me to pay 2000 baht or SGD 80 for the damage. :)
