Chiang Mai in Dec

Hi hi, I need help in planning my itinerary, my hubby left me to plan this family trip (bcos he's suck in trip planning and i m equally bad). we are travelling with 2 teenagers, so some adventures for them and shopping for me and lazing in the pool with nice view for the man (aka the payer..haha)

Flight : SQ / Silkair rounded up to $3k+ for 4. very exp.
if a short stopover flight can help me save a few hundred bucks, i dont mind. any suggestion?

i have roughly read up some blogs and gather that these are the places we may want to go:-

Butong sticky waterfalls
Grand canyon waterpark
old city
phae gate
Doi Luthanon
night markets
elephant sanctuary (w/o ride)
white water rafting (for Novice..

)
jungle zipline thing
temple (so many to choose from :s22:

, so pls recommend a must see and not to miss one)

Accomodation :
We are thinking of staying at 1 hotel thru out the whole 7days trip (the hb and kids dont like to move hotel :s8:

) but if the suggestion is to stay a night or 2 at Pai or somewhere becos of travelling time..we will do it.

Air Asia promo layover at bkk 1.5hrs.
1.5hrs is it very rush? What happen if flight delay?

ya..it's quite rushing,you need to clear custom then check in
to domestic terminal and go through the security screening again.

promo for budget airlines like over already, usually is 6 mths ahead of your trip and dec is peak season..more exp.

how old are your kids, are they in 1 rm with the parents.

They r 14 &16. Ideally wish to book a room with 2 big beds if not 2 connecting rooms.

not worth..you can get half of the price..

i just came back with silkair promo only 250 last 2 mths ago.

If u wait , meaning most probably you cant go this December. Whole family manage to go travel together is priceless so I would say just book whatever you are comfortable with.

Since you have 7 days, maybe can consider stop over at BKK for one night each way. Confirmed cheaper air tix if you do although abit troublesome but then able to enjoy two cities in single trip also not bad an idea.

JTS I going for 8 days which I break down to 2 nights bkk, 3 nights chiang Mai and 2 night bkk before heading home. Airtix totalled $260 via Thai Lion Air. This is just to give u an idea if you looking to save for air tix. Of course now will be abit late to book this cheap for December but still able to save quite a bit as compared to direct flight.

Just my 2 bahts.

If book everything through airasia, there will be staff on the ground to direct you to use a transit immigration and customs clearance.

i think of going cause near bkk. And there is a rather new intercon there with rather good review. thats why keen on trying out.

Old city , phae gate, night market, they are located in the same place. Nothing/special to see for phae gate. Temples are everywhere.

Doi Suthep is a common destination ( temple on top of mountain), while doi inthanon is more for the nature lover.

Hotels will have standard day trips to visit minority tribes, elephant trip and trekking, jungle zipline .

If you got time, maybe can visit Pai , a small scenic town 150km away from chiangmai , frequently featured in movies, guide bks ( many tourists , just like chiang mai ) .

I'm going to chiang mai too but it's on the november for 1 month. I fly with scoot for about 400 sgd.

Chiang mai is really A wonderful place to visit.

Many place worth visiting! Most people that go to chiang mai usually go to the place you mentioned.

It's better to do A camping if you are going to Doi Inthanon for the best view. If not no point going there.

For shopping mall there are a few recommandation

1. Central Airport Plaza
2. Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center (Plenty of female stuff)
3. Central Festival (Selling branded stuff)

If you are going to bangkok. It's more convinent to move around compare to chiang mai.

1.Skytrain (MRT)
2. Tuk Tuk
3. Taxi
4. Grab

Always remember to ask them to open the meter for taxi before boarding or you will face overcharge price given by them. Don't ask them to recommand you place to eat because they will bring you to restaurant that charge high price. Tuk tuk overcharge too ! And they might ask you to help them by sending you to shop and ask you go take a look in the shop. Because they will get coupon for their fuel by sending people to the shop.
