Hi all,

Would like to share my car rental exp in Chiangmai airport.

Rented a 1.5L Toyota car from Hertz Chiangmai airport in 2023, choose Hertz because its reputation is international and read from this forum its better to rent from global rental co. like Hertz.

After the paperwork inside the airport Hertz counter, head outside to the Hertz carpark, inspect the car and drive off. No need to pay carpark fees.

The interior of the car is clean. Car seemed quite new. Everything works fine.
A couple of hours later while waiting for my family and I took a closer look at the tyres and to my horror,
there were a few deep cuts at the front tyre, cuts that bad which will cause the trye to rupture anytime.

So I called up Hertz Chiangmai and seek assistance, after much to & fro on the phone, I was told to drive to a tyre centre. The service man told me he will replace the bad tyre with my spare tyre per Hertz instruction. He cannot replace with a new tyre.

I was disappointed with this decision. I tried speaking with Hertz Chiangmai again on the phone but was told me the only solution is to drive back to Hertz Chiangmai airport to change to another car. Imagine, this is only day 1. I still need to drive thru Mae Hon San loop.

Long story short, due to our pack itinerary, I drove the entire journey with the spare tyre thanking our heaven stars, nothing bad happened.

Conclusion, always check thoroughly the tyres and others.
Hertz or local car rental, can't depend on their staff to check and ensure everything.

Thanks for sharing the experience! I am opting for the super collision waiver thingy that reduces the excess to $0 - hope all goes well!

Tried it at Mae Teang as a package with elephant experience.
Basically it’s just a slow river ride on a bamboo raft down the river for a couple of km (can’t recall how far). At the end there will be a pickup to bring us back to the starting point.

Important note: Avoid going during raining season.

Done that last december but in reverse. i travelled from chiangrai through to phrao enroute to the sticky waterfall area. lots of up and down through the mountains with my ears blocked and unblocked several times.
this was my route:
Nakaraj Princess Chiang Rai > Charin Garden Resort > Wat Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan > Le Cocotier Resort

I've driven a few times from chiangmai to chiangrai and is quite easy and straightforward using the google maps.
Along the way you can either stop at THE ROCK & RIVER for some coffee break or drive straight to a pit stop at
Mae Khachan PTT gas station for a toilet break, just be careful and slow when reaching some steep and bending road.
Also some of the areas the road are under repairing, other than that i don't see any difficulty in driving to Crai.
Have fun and enjoying driving.

I drive CM to CR and back frequently.
Just go slow when there is a bend, especially during downslope.

Several stretches of the road are currently undergoing repaving and/or widening, but otherwise road condition is good.

Thanks for sharing bro. Where is a place for rent? from mobile App? and what brand is good for long distant driving?
