u can try this, Country Hotel (國園大飯店) stay 2-3 times, not bad
u can go visit chaiyi prison, beimen train stn, wenhua night maket

I think can consider also taking the old tutu train up to fenchihu or come down from fenchihu.
I was thinking about 布袋

Yes, the little bus terminal in front of the train station is the pick up point.
Also got touts asking if you want to go up, they will send you up for a small fee.
