Has anyone been to Chiba city? Is there anything to do there at night or is it a dead town?

I am going there in 2 week times and am wondering if its a dead town. I am also dreading the daily commute between Tokyo and Chiba

I was there many many years ago on work trip, rather quiet place... It is definitely not a tourist place but will still have the basic amenities just not as much choice. Best stay in a good location near to the amenities.

Can still remember going back to Tokyo in the morning, first experience of being pushed into train and really packed liked sardines

I am pretty annoyed by the upcoming trip. As far as I can tell, travel time each way between Tokyo and chiba is 1.5 hours. Total travel time therfore is 3 hours.

I tried to fight the hotel for a refund for early cancellation but it won't bulge and I am pretty frustrated.

What's the organiser's rationale? Not typical for tourist to stay in Chiba city and traveling to Tokyo daily

Might be due to budget constraints? I’ve seen others from a travel group mentioning they were staying around Makuhari to visit Tokyo city for a week. But they did share they were having a very tight budget including meals.

Actually the plan was that we will travel around together as a group. Maybe even rent a car...explore Chiba prefecture together. The guy who took the lead told us to book this hotel all the way in Chiba and we assumed he had a plan. Then he later told us he had his own itinerary and only meet us for about half of the days. With that, the group started pulling apart and planning seperate destinations.

Alamak. That’s bad. So is this a work trip or incentive trip?

If you guys were unable to change hotel, look for attractions nearby to visit? Or main motive is still to visit Tokyo’s attractions?

This is actually a guys trip.

Without doxxing myself with recognisable details, the self-appointed tour guide suddenly said he had other things to do in Japan. Of the 10 days, maybe only on 3 days we will come together as a group. Original plan was that we would travel together and explore the Chiba prefecture.

Do you have any advice on how easy it would be to walk into clean motels in Tokyo and Yokohama without reservations?

I’m afraid I’m unable to help on this. Not heard of motels in Japan.

Plus it’s peak travel season and Tokyo is most visited city in Japan. We usually camp to book early for hotels/ryokans.

Yokohama would definitely be easier. Why not just search and book now? As for Tokyo, you can try those that are located not so close to major stations, maybe 1-2 train stops away, e.g. Gotanda, Shin-Nihombashi, Kanda. As long as there’s a train station, might work for you.
