China doesnt accept visa/mc/cash?

Haven't been to China in many years but read they all don't accept credit cards and cash now?

Have to only pay by QR code ?
How does that work for sinkies?

Cash still has to be accepted everywhere, so no one can reject your cash payment. Visa, Mastercard and Amex never got adopted anywhere outside of the touristic areas and departmental stores in the major cities.

When I visited in early 2020, I used the TourPass service from Alipay which provides a QR code. I brought most of my RMB in cash. I also relied on ATM sporting Cirrus/Maestro.

I have BOC Singapore account and Zaobao unionpay CC. China use unionpay Credit Card, so I can pay by this Card if machant has CC terminal.
The BOC mobile App has scan function, some places accept unionpay QR code, and charged to zaobao Card on RMB. No foreign currency exchange involved if you have RMB in BOC account to pay the CC bill.

Alipay allows you to link certain international cc. I've successfully linked citibank and UOB visa, and used them with no problem.

However do note that there will be a transaction fee by your bank.

I think WeChat have also started supporting overseas cc, and I've linked it to my verified WeChat account. I'll be able to check next week when I'm over there.

It's on top. My mistake earlier, just checked with some friends over there who have used it successfully. WeChat will charge a 3% service fee for transaction over RMB200.

WeChat and Alipay are for small amount transaction usage, for big items purchase that more than 200 yuan, you better using Credit Card.
China widely accepted Card type is Union pay, not Visa and Master, although big shopping centre May accept all of them.
For the convenience, suggest open BOC Account in Singapore, and get the Zaobao Union pay Card. This Card is dual currency for SGD and CNY, when you pay the card using Chinese yuan, There is no currency conversion fees.
Some more, BOC Bank App on phone has QR scan payment function,can pay Union pay QR code.
