I'm visiting beijing next week and thinking to get the Singtel Readyroam.
Just worry about the settings on my iphone.
According to the singtel replied, just need to turn on the dataroam over my iphone settings. Hopefully, it works then.

AFAIK, if you use a (non-China) foreign SIM card to roam in China, Google/Facebook access is not block when using mobile data on the foreign SIM card to access Internet.

Just FYI, one (more) possible option to consider below:

Starhub prepaid SIM card has a feature called Happy Roam -- which supports mobile data roaming to 10 countries -- INCLUDING China.

ALL mobile data purchased on Starhub prepaid can be used at no additional (roaming) cost in those countries supported by Starhub Happy Roam. See HERE:
http://www.starhub.com/personal/mobile/mobile-phones-plans/prepaid-cards/happy-roam.html

As with all other prepaid SIM cards, there are various (mobile) data plans you can use on Starhub prepaid SIM, see HERE:
http://www.starhub.com/personal/mob...ards/data-add-on-plans/prepaid-data-plan.html

You can also "stack" prepaid mobile data plans. An example of prepaid mobile data stacking below...

E.g. from above Starhub prepaid link -- the following mobile data plans are available:
- $5 1GB data plan valid for 3days
- $1 10MB data plan valid for 7days

You can consecutively buy (3 x $5 1GB 3days) + (1 x $1 10MB 7days), total spent is (3x$5 + 1x$1) = $16, combined you get...

(3x1GB + 1x10MB) = 3.01GB valid for 16days (3x3days + 1x7days)

Above is exactly how I stack to get 3GB mobile data valid for 16 days -- using Starhub prepaid SIM -- when I had a 2 weeks overseas trip the last time.

Make sure you activate roaming & set correct settings before using the mobile data on Starhub prepaid SIM overseas, see HERE:
http://www.starhub.com/personal/support/mobile/roaming/prepaid-roaming/happy-roam.html

Starhub also has a mobile app called "Happy Prepaid" which is available on both Google Playstore & Apple app store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.starhub.happy
https://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/happy-prepaid/id981031677?mt=8

The "Happy Prepaid" app makes it easy to check remaining mobile data balance or buy more mobile data (if required).

When come back to Singapore...

Any unused/balance Starhub prepaid mobile data (still) within validity period -- can of course also be used here locally.

Hope the above helps.

Q. Haven't start using prepaid SIM in SG.
When stacking data, can subscribe 3x $5 (1gb/3 days) at same time. Or need do it on last day?

I only know starhub allows up to 100GB data for up to 30 Days.

just use local prepaid sim, when come back sg, just throw into rubbish bin.

no bill shock.

for china, this method seems to be the best and no frill.

FYI, the current CHINA prepaid SIM is not so straight forward.
You need to register with your passport, and need to go to the shop in the same area where you got it to Terminate it.
There's a monthly recurring minimum charge. If your credit is zero, it will go into negative side. up to 6 months.
Then your SIM is black listed, as well as your Passport info.

There's no more buy and throw SIM for China locally. And if you're updated with their news, China is starting to curb VPN on the consumer side.
Another negative reason to NOT get a China SIM.

I was in Beijing earlier this month. I used my M1 to roam. They have the unlimited $15/day roaming. Sine I was only going there for a few days, and also I could tether my data connection (for my wife), we used the M1 roaming.

No firewall - I could access everything.

But when we used hotel provided WIFI, we couldn't access any sites.

Any local China SIM or hotels won't be able to access FB or Google or YouTube.
You'll need VPN for those. But news said they are clamping down on consumer VPN.
Some business hotels have VPN ready for oversea users. Wifi can straight login FB.

Will be heading China next month, for 10 weeks. So will be getting the Starhub prepaid with Happy Roam.

$20 for 3.6GB for 30 days.

To those who are thinking of using SH Prepaid in China, you must be prepared for slow speeds because their partner network is China Mobile, which uses a very unorthodox 3G standard known as TD-SCDMA. This standard is rarely supported in handsets sold outside of China. Coupled with the fact that SH Prepaid no longer supports 4G for happy roaming, you will find yourself dropping back to GPRS/EDGE which can be very frustrating at times.

I tried slotting my SH Prepaid into two different Chinese-made phones (a XM Mi5 and a Zuk Z2), both of which support the TD-SCDMA standard, but still the network kept dropping back to GPRS/EDGE. I suspect there is some throttling or network management going on because there are times when I can reach the 3G network but it will drop back down to GPRS/EDGE after a minute or two. Experienced this in Shanghai and the surrounding cities like Suzhou and Wuxi. Perhaps those who have tried SH Prepaid in China can report their experiences here as well?
