wah was planning to buy the starhub prepaid card for my china trips. Is the connection really that bad?

For starhub user there is another data plan called data travel but sadly from the website, I think china is not included.

Not an issue with the setting of the APN. It will only connect if the APN is configured correctly.

Ups for more review for SH Happy Roam.

If the internet is very slow, then it pretty much defeat the purpose of connectivity. Would probably just rent a wifi device which is much more expensive though...

Wifi Egg should not work. As usually it is using Local Country SIM.

Now at HeFei, AnHui, China.
My Asus PPTP VPN still working.
Tested and it did not disconnect on my laptop overnight.
(My game is still online.)

Also do note, if you play with the DNS, you could connect to Facebook without using VPN.
But Google is not accessible. You tube also cannot.
But for non root phone, DNS can only be changed on Wifi.
Else on Android, Download and install an app "DNS Changer".
It has Google DNS, Open DNS, Yandex DNS?, Level3 DNS?, and also can add manually.

Cannot. I asked personally and the CS confirmed.
As of now, the "cheapest" option is to rent the wifi egg premium from wifiegg.

I'm going Changsha / Hunan / Zhangjiajie .. It's gonna be midnight after clearing the custom. Dont know if still can get any prepaid sim at the airport at that timing...

I'm using iPhone and totally a phone idiot, any vpn programs to recommend ?

iPhone can use these app. betternet or flyvpn

Tunnel Bear used to work for me (years ago). I dont bother about FB, Google, etc when i go to China now. Be sure to activate the vpn before you arrive in China, the vpn wont work if you try to activate it in China.

Back from China! To anyone who cares, both the m1 passport data and Starhub prepaid sim are able to access facebook and google in China

The network is stable and good even on remote mountain top

Changi WIFI egg is not able to access Facebook & Google ! HTHS!

I have read several comments on using starhub prepaid card, happy roam for roaming svc in China.

If I were to buy the prepaid card and use it as a hotspot on another phone/wifiegg for my main phone, will I still be able to access to Google svc?

Or do I have to use it as my main line when I am in China?

As long as the access is via your SH prepaid line, whether as main or as hot spot, you should be able to access google.

Can try using those china apps for maps. Google map didn't seem as updated and detailed when I used the other time..
