Anyone following up with recent JD 京东 Vs Meituan 美团 delivery war? Everyday have new patterns.
Summary: Meituan 美团 is the biggest food delivery platform in China. recent years they finished almost all competitors and monopolized the trade, soaring profits. Meituan charging the F&B owners high commissions and pay peanuts to it's delivery guys. Also no insurance and etc and lots of ways to squeeze money from 3 sides, customers, F&B and delivery.
Recently boss of JD 京东 看不过去 and says that it's time to regulate food delivery, so that customers can get safe and clean food, delivery guys can earn money and still get insurance and platform companies should cut down on profits. So JD decided to enter the industry of food delivery to compete with Meituan. JD boss started the competition with a promise to F&B that they will not charge higher Comms like Meituan, they also offer to pay insurance for the delivery riders and charge customers lower delivery fees...
Very interesting because everyday either companies will come up with new strategies to counter the other and now most Chinese ppl are backing JD because they riding on morale high ground of more care and money for riders, more safe and clean food and more money for F&B.
Very very interesting, this is like watching TVB drama in real live
