China southern airline

Planning to travel to seoul in Nov/Dec, Saw that China southern is the cheapest, using A320. So might as well spend another few days in guangzhou as well. Any bros or sis who took China southern can share experience?

Is it a budget airline?
Any entertainment system on board? Website say have, but other YouTube etc say dun have.
How is your experience at guangzhou airport?

It is not a budget airline. It is one of the main airlines of China, together with Air China and China Eastern. It is the biggest domestic airline, I think. Its hub is Guangzhou. Guangzhou Baiyun is well-connected to central Guangzhou by subway,

The price difference is drastic with the transit. $900 using SQ and around $600 using China southern with transit, scoot is already 500+ without adding in luggage.. So I'm thinking what am I lacking.

Any experience about the entertainment and food on board?

Their food is passable on their domestic routes. I have not taken China Southern on an international route for some time, so I am unable to comment more. I will take China Southern if I am in your shoes since I like a Guangzhou stopover if it is not taking too much of my plan in Seoul.

Took a few times to GZ... just like any other airline plane with food (i dun like) and free check in luggage. Bring your own tablet for movie.

Took CSair before... that time their international route via A320 don't have IFE... only domestic route bigger plane got IFE

southern one the entertainment ish those small overhead screen that drop down one during announcement and then later play some random chinese movie.. eastern better got own screen and hv some selection of movies and shows..

Their csu is indeed fast to reply to email. So it seems no online checkin for flights departing from sg. Their reply is to go airport 2 hours b4 for checkin

I still suspecting whether they are a full fledged carrier or budget airline....

Chinese airlines pattern:

cannot online check in or e-Boarding pass. A visit to the airport counter is unavoidable
cannot "Manage Booking" or verify booking online if purchase from agents
cannot select seats (most of the time)
no in flight TV (if taking 3x3 aircraft). Most flights uses budget airline type of aircraft unless to beijing/ shanghai or take SQ
frequent unexplained delays even if boarding ends early or aircraft arrives early.
have 2-3 air marshals
lengthy "turbulence". the seatbelt sign can stay switched on for 30-45mins after takeoff
food so-so. usually just 鸡或鱼
common to get remote gate / shuttle buses (no aerobridges) in china airports

cabin crew are generally pretty and courteous.

Chinese state-owned airlines, like most of their state-owned businesses, exploit consumers because of their monopoly status. Public utilities, telcos, banks... the whole lot, in my opinion.

Small plane (3x3) , sg no aerobridge, need to take shuttle bus. Luckily no rain
Food is ok, fish or chicken.
Quite punctual departure.
At gz, got aerobridge.
Choose this airline due to the price and timing(morning flight)

Just came back with China Southern, no in-flight entertainment...Well technically there was, if u count the shared small overhead screen. To and fro GZ, showing the same movie. It was a small plane, food is ... Well i guess you can't complain when its cheap.
