From the youtube video, there isnt IFE lol ...
Sin to CAN is already about 3.5 to 4 hours journey lol ...
have to download your own movies to watch ...

Have flew on silkair b737-800 and a320 ...
Their a320 is very squeezy just like budget airline
Would prefer flying on b737-800
Perhaps southern airline is also the same case ...
I've flew once with China Southern a few years ago on from SIN to Guilin via CAN. Plane (probably A320) had a 3x3 seating configuration with no IFE. Food was better than expected (compared with China Eastern). The flight was generally comfortable if I compare with budget airlines.

I have flown on China Southern a few times, the most recent being a few years ago. On what I consider to be a short flight, IFE is not important- it is more important to have a little shut-eye. Transfers at Chinese airports required baggage to be retrieved and checked-in again. I generally avoid stopover flights in China still. At least 4 airlines fly Shanghai direct. Hopefully Baiyun is a lot better now, having completed its expansion last year.

Meaning you need to leave the immigration to retrieve your baggage checked in at the conveyor belt ?

My understanding is that for transit flights, they would automatically transfer your checked in baggage to the next flight for you .

My experience is no need to retrieve luggage and check-in again if it's on a single ticket. Unless you buy separate tickets or need to change airlines then definitely need to re-check in.

MH should give you a shorter flight time overall compared to China Southern with its transit in Guangzhou. Have you checked Spring and Juneyao for prices? They also fly direct. Xiamen should also be quite short.

i'm interested in taking juneyao airlines
have you taken it before?
i just want to know about the general experience

the price is less than half of most airlines and its a 787
so i'm not expecting fantastic experience since it includes food and 20kg baggage also

Interested to know more about this airline too since it's offered the best prices to Urumqi via Shanghai :)

I went to make an account
Turns out the price doesn't include taxes :s13:
But for flight to shanghai still generally cheaper around sgd400+
It's still worthy with its new plane

I took China Southern airline last week from Shanghai to Guangzhou.
Was impress on their selection of TV and movie. Their selection is way more then SQ.
Their in-flight meal is not so bad for me.

Their leg room is better then SQ economic class.
Their chair is better than SQ economic class.

Plane type : boeing 787-9
Wah now upgrade liao. When I took this airline 10 years ago, its same standard as budget. Cramped seats, no ife and crappy food.

That's why I boycott them till now.

All the Chinese airlines have improved very fast in terms of service quality and aircraft. Some like Hainan Airlines are considered in the same league as SIA, Qatar and Cathay- 5-star. China Southern is considered 4-star like SilkAir. Considering that their airlines operate so many routes and aircraft, it requires a lot of investment to not only keep up, but even upgrade.
