So, I probably will take a train from Taipei railway station to Taitung's and transfer another train from Taitung to ChiShang. Total travel will be estimated around 5hours. I may consider to visit Hualien after ChiShang as I need to travel back to Taitung after that.

you should google map and see the locations of the different towns.

based on what you are saying, you have not been researching train schedules nor know the geographical locations.

I will plan a route to the south to Kaohsiung. Then from there to 池上，then 2 nights in taitung.
Will not risk my trip via Huailen downwards to ChiShang.

Yeah, I haven't done much research on the transportation and also the locations of my destinations.

ic, so, it's more advisable to travel from Taipei to Kaohsiung and follow by Chi Shang and Taitung. Ok, I still got to do some researches on my coming trip then. Thansk.

if you take 南回线 from 高雄 , you can choose to stay in 台东 first. there are some nice places to viist.

花莲 to 池上，not difficult or risky drive.
Furthermore, many beautiful sights to see along the east coast.

If u start from 高雄，u will pass 臺東，then 池上.

From there, either u reverse back, or u continue noethwards along the coastline (by bus or rail) to 花蓮

China airlines provide a direct flight from SG to Kaoshiong. I probably will take a direct flight to Kaoshiong and spend 2days there before proceeding to ChiShang by train. Will spend 3days in ChiShang as I believe I will enjoy the green rice fileds coming May. After I will take your advice to travel north where I will make a stop at Hualien. 2days in Hualien where I will explore the east coastal line beauties. My last destination will be Taipei where I will take a direct flight back to SG.

isn't most of the scenic sites in hualien devastated by the earthquake? 7 yrs to rebuild? u really need to research better on what is open and what is not on the east coast.

u are better off on the west coast up Alishan, Nantou, Hsinchu and Taichung IMO from Kaoshiong.

Also, someone had mentioned, the arrival time in KS is not as good as the departure time. Better to go TPE and go south to KS and fly back from KS.
