Hi guys,

So I'm thinking of getting about 4 TB of storage in an external HDD format. I currently have a 3.5" drive enclosure at USB 3.0. However, I can't decide what to do from here on out.

Should I:

1) Buy a WD RED 4TB and stick it in the Enclosure? (about 203 from amazon, 226 local)

2) Buy a WD Blue 4TB and stick it in the Enclosure? (about 169 from amazon, hard to find local)

3) Buy a WD Green 4TB and stick it in the Enclosure? (about 198 local, not available on amazon)

4) Buy a WD My Book 4TB and Use THAT?

I did not consider using Red or Black drives as I'm only using this as a media or file storage, frequently accessed though. What're your opinions?

1) pls dun choose that, some user in the forums have issues with that drive and beside that the drive is for NAS though not sure if ext will be better.

2) and 3) green and blue have already combined together to become sole blue, but some SLS shop probably still have old green stocks.

4) but if u dun have any good backup software, they at least provide u with one and comes with power adapter and usb cable. (more security if u bring out for work.)

Overall I would say that go WD My BOOK. But if comparing the cost and the items u have (3.5" enclosure), I did rather u buy other brands HDD like HGST(not sure of the current price for 4TB).

Get HGST Deskstar. They use enterprise grade HDDs in the consumer market and has the lowest failure rate amongst the well known HDD makers. Locally you can get 4tb for 239. Around the same price if you buy from amazon with shipping.
