It offers rebates for online shopping and even Paywave and more importantly, no minimum spend. So even if I don't dine that often, its still worth it IMO. Especially when its free for life. Just keep and use when you need lor. Some more its a Signature card so you get some benefits such as the GV priority queue. :s13:

so confirm only applies to the "Restaurant - bar" category? Not the normal restaurant category? Initially when I read I thought it means from restaurant to bar category. Do you have examples of those places that fit the "Restaurant - bar" category?

They quote 'cafe', ' dessert'. Presumably, McDonalds is a restaurant that sells McCafe and sundaes, and therefore qualifies.

Overall, not a very good card. 3.8% rebates in restaurants (min $50/transaction), 3.8% rebates in online spend in Foreign currencies (min S$50/transaction), $500 spend needed. Spend $1315/mth to get the max rebate $50.

Ic. so confusing. same card but different promos at the same time.
It depends also on what form is used.

Normal spending such as Tangs, groceries, petrol earn 0.5% with this card.

$500 for simply dining and online shopping is a lot.

Totally agree. It seems like CIMB Platinum Mastercard is still better for low-middle income use cases.

But I can see why 3.8% is still attractive.

The mailer has a link to the TnC at http://www.cimbbank.com.sg/pdf/VS-CrossSell.pdf

Some of the pertinent terms:

3. The first 1,000 successful new Principal Cardmembers (Capped at first 500 per month in October 2014 & November 2014) who apply for CIMB Visa Signature and make a minimum of 3 transactions on the same card with the approved CIMB Visa Signature posted within 1 month from the relevant card approval date will receive a Xiaomi Redmi 1S & prepaid SIM card worth S$179.

6. Should the number of successful new Principal Cardmembers exceed the number of Gifts available for a particular month, the Principal Cardmembers with the highest spend for that particular month will be awarded the Gift.

7. Highest spend will be calculated based on transactions posted from the Principal Cardmembers’ card approval date up till and including the posting date of the 3rd transaction.

Seems like it would be quite hard to get the xiaomi.

The most headache is every card has min spend cap inorder to get the max % off.
