Interested in CISSP. Both include exam?
Citrep you can claim $2500. So if go to NUS means net payable is $4000-$2500 = $1500.

fyi.. NUS one can claim citrep unless u book the exam thru them. Thats during my 2010 time.. not sure got any changes.

can claim citrep = higher fees, cannot claim even lower fees.. CITREP is created for vendor to exploit IMO :(

;)

ISS charges S$1166.30 for the exam inclusive of GST. (I paid this amount for the March exam last year) . ISC2 charges USD$599.. even lower if you book early. USD$599 is at today's rate about SGD$750, so you are looking at about a SGD$250 profit per exam candidate for ISS

Because they are the only ones accredited by ISC2 to conduct the exams, they are also the only ones endorsed by IDA for the purpose of CITREP.

Their CISSP course is being marketed at S$4333.50 inclusive of GST. Assuming the price includes exams and you get back the max SGD$2500, you would still need to fork out of pocket $1833.50.

Because of this, all other training providers offering CISSP are considered grey market providers simply because ISC2 only recognised ISS-NUS, not because the quality of the training is lacking. As a result, most providers charge about SGD$2000 to SGD$3000 for their CISSP courses, depending on whether exams are included.

This extra $200 to $700 may put candidates off and sway them towards ISS-NUS where they can claim CITREP. But do not forget that the $2500 will only be claimable if you pass the exam first time round and the CISSP exam is not a easy one to pass

If you fail and require a second attempt, your total cost will be SGD$4333.50 + SGD$1166.30 = SGD5499.80 of which you get back SGD$2500. Total out of pocket in this case will be SGD2999.80

So unless you are extremely confident of clearing the exam first time round, going with other providers like Globalknowledge or Bridgingminds may actually not be so bad, since you are not bounded by the CITREP requirements then.

My two cents worth ;)

Self study is the cheapest, just get a good ref book and book the exam. Most of the feedback abt CBK training is not positive ... Just my 2 cents. ;)

That is true, but the scope and depth of the CISSP exam is so broad that people will find difficulties in understanding some of the domains.

For the official review classes, these are ran once or twice a year and usually before the exams. You should consider trainers who trains the CISSP course on a regular basis and preferably across the region as they would be a lot more familiar

Shorn Harris's book is good, but can be technical and difficult to read, especially if you are not very experienced in the specific domains.

The Sybex book (CISSP Study Guide) is easier to digest, but not as indepth.

My advise is dun just rely on one book. All the books are available from the library and from other sources if you are resourceful enough.

Another tip is to make use of mindmaps to jot down what you have learnt after each domain. There are 10 domains, chances are that when you have covered the fourth or fifth domain, you would have forgotten what is inside the first. Mindmaps will be useful for helping the recollection process

And finally, make sure you give yourself ample time for revision. I reckon one would need at least two to three months of evening studying to be able to prepare yourself adequately for the exam.
Gd luck for the preparations!

I took 1.5 months to study for the exam.. relying heavily on the Shon Haris DVDs and just a bit of the book. I think what matter most is that I have experience in almost all the 10 domains so it was relatively easy for me. Just try to understand all of the 10 domains and seek help when you have any questions. Do not try to memorize as this exam does not test on your memory but on your understanding instead.

May I know is it difficult to find someone to endorse your qualification after passing the exam??

Planning to self study using the books and the video.
But one thing annoying me is that who can I look for to endorse myself...

you can look for anyone who is an existing CISSP for the endorsement. Could be a friend or colleague.

If you really cannot find someone, let me know. Would be glad to help

Yes.. pass the exam first and do not underestimate the exam. 250 questions in 6 hours is no joke. Make sure you allocate at least 2 to 3 months of studying prior to the exam

just a check, so is NUS ISS course helpful?

My friends took it, they are saying it helps to understand, other than that, if personally no time to commit, self study can b recommended.

currently in IT infra, i do domain admin and for security wise, I have some knowledge.

The CISSP scope is very broad. To maximise the training, one should have already done some self study and use the training as an opportunity to clarify areas you are not clear on.

To attend the course and expect to be able to pass the exam is sadly not possible as a fair bit of preparation will be necessary

There is a CISSP class starting Jun 17... Can let you have the details if you are keen
