Clean Install iOS

Coming from Android and been using iPhone 6+ for awhile.
Thinking of wipe clean to fresh new state since there is so frequent updates.

Will save all my photos on my external HDD.
My SMS and WhatApp how ah?

Clean install doesn't backup sms
