Cleaning cpu cooler

Hi i got a old 212 evo that i want to use but its a bit dusty, the x mount has some rust on the screws already. Just want to check is it safe to use wd40 to remove the rust? of cause i will take it out from the mobo first before doing anything. Also the fins seems to have some bit of corrosion on one side, but seems quite minor, do i need to do anything to it?

swee. Thanks a lot. But the bracket that comes with it I'm not sure what to use cause its like normal rust and secondary school knowledge tells me that reddish brown rust means iron. LOL.
