Clearing US Issued Cheque

Just checked with DBS today and they told me that to clear a USD50 cheque,there will be charges which total about SGD50.

Is there anyway I can clear the cheque without charges or minimum charge? Thanks.

Do you have a US based stock broker account ? I used to bank in at US 50 cents check into my TDAmeritrade account at no charge. If you have, please check with them.

Thanks for the info,but i do not have any brokerage accounts unfortunately.

Btw,found this old thread http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/money-mind-210/foreign-cheque-collection-charges-2951296.html. Someone mentioned can deposit to citibank credit card at no charge. Did anyone tried this lately or knows if this is still working?

I always deposit in the quick cheque deposit box outside the bank.

I always get charged for USD $25 agent and USD $10 bank.
