Drugs Allegedly Belonged to Customer Who Rented Room in Shop

On the morning of 2 August, a Shin Min Daily News reporter went to the scene, finding the motorcycle shop closed as it operated only at night.

An employee of a nearby shop said that when he arrived for work at 5 am on the day of the raid, he saw at least 40 plainclothes officers still there, collecting evidence and taking photos.

The drug raid operation allegedly lasted until 11 am that morning.

The next day, the employee met the motorcycle shop boss, who said he had no idea what had happened. Since then, the shop has operated as per usual.

A supervisor at the raided motorcycle shop explained to Lianhe Zaobao that in October 2023, a customer had rented out a room in the shop, and the drugs seized in the operation belonged to him.

The supervisor also claimed that in the months since then, he hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary with the rentee and did not expect such an incident.

In fact, on the day of the raid, the supervisor returned to his shop from the gas station only to find it swarming with police officers. They took him to the police station to assist with the investigation.

Heroin & Ice Seized in Drug Raid

The CNB and Singapore Police Force replied to Lianhe Zaobao, confirming the CNB raid on 12 July.

They said that officers seized 975 grams of heroin, 40 grams of methamphetamine or ice, and 30 grams of controlled substances in the form of pills. They estimated the drugs to be worth S$107,400.

A motorcycle shop in the Yishun industrial area was found to be hiding drugs late at night. After being tipped off, the Central Narcotics Bureau and Criminal Investigation Department conducted a raid, arresting a male suspect and seizing over $100,000 worth of drugs.

A 5 minute 43 second video started circulating on Facebook from Wednesday night (July 31st). The footage shows several cars and motorcycles suddenly stopping in front of an industrial unit on Yishun Industrial Street 1, with over 10 fully-equipped law enforcement officers wearing helmets and accompanied by police dogs rushing into the industrial unit. At the time, there were people dining and resting outside the shop, and the officers instructed them not to leave and to wait for further instructions.

When a Lianhe Zaobao reporter visited the site on Thursday (August 1st), a male worker next to the motorcycle shop said the shop usually opens around 8pm and operates until late at night.

An anonymous warehouse manager said the motorcycle shop had been operating for around a year, and he would normally only see the boss and employees inside. He understood the incident occurred around 1am on July 12th. "I remember starting work around 7am that day and saw 40 police officers and investigators outside, with the motorcycle shop boss handcuffed and taken away."

A 58-year-old man named Lu Ding, who claimed to be the shop's supervisor, said he has been in the motorcycle repair business for 15 years and has always operated at night. "Daytime business is not good, with very few customers. My business partner and I have been operating this shop for a year."

Regarding the raid, he said he had met a customer last October who rented a room in the shop and would sometimes learn to repair motorcycles. The drugs belonged to that customer. "During the time I interacted with him, I didn't notice anything unusual about him, so I didn't expect this to happen."

When the incident occurred, Lu Ding had just returned from the gas station and was immediately surrounded by a large group of police at the shop entrance, before being brought to the police station to assist with investigations.

The Singapore Police Force and Central Narcotics Bureau confirmed in a joint response to Lianhe Zaobao on Thursday night that narcotics officers, with the assistance of criminal investigation officers, conducted a joint operation at Yishun Industrial Street 1 around 1am on July 12th.

During the operation, the officers seized around 975 grams of heroin, 40 grams of Ice, and 30 grams of pills, believed to be controlled drugs. The total street value of the drugs exceeded $107,400.

A 43-year-old Singaporean male was arrested during the operation and charged in court on July 13th for drug trafficking offenses. The CNB's investigation is ongoing.
