Okay so i received the commandos vocational assesment letter a few days back and i cant decide. Let me explain
My understanding is thar as long as i say that i are interested i most likely will get in alrd cos not alot ppl will say that they are interested

But all along my plan was to aim for ocs aft bmt cos of the opportunity to lead and the things i get to experience and learn and ofc the pay and rank ah,(i also stay in the west so like travelling for at least 6 months will be easier)

So the things that im considering about commandos
-high risk of injury
-tough training
-parents worried
-not enough time wif gf
But
-pay is kinda good
-prestige
-i can learn alot more things
-will aim for section leader/officer if i do get in but then even more no time and tougher but also even higher prestige and pay

And to reject commandos and hopefully get to ocs aft bmt
-risk of not getting in (and i heard that ocs is still biased towards academic results which then im not super confident of scoring for my A levels)
But
-pay
-rank
-things i can learn and experience like the weapons training and Jcc which to me like tough but quite fun

To sum up, please advice if i shld say that im interested or not during the interview, given all my considerations

Short advices are fine but if yall wanna type long long to help me decide then all the better, and also correct any of my info if they are wrong cos all this is frm my seniors in army/commados or frm online sources

Help the lost boy thankss

I wouldn't say expressing interest means you will likely get in. I also wouldn't say not a lot of people say they are interested.

But all along my plan was to aim for ocs aft bmt cos of the opportunity to lead and the things i get to experience and learn and ofc the pay and rank ah,(i also stay in the west so like travelling for at least 6 months will be easier)
You can be commando officer

So the things that im considering about commandos
-high risk of injury
-tough training
-parents worried
-not enough time wif gf
But
-pay is kinda good
-prestige
-i can learn alot more things
-will aim for section leader/officer if i do get in but then even more no time and tougher but also even higher prestige and pay
-high risk of injury can happen to other vocations too.
-other vocations also tough training
-parents can also worried if you are not in commando
-you can also not have enough time with gf for other vocations.
-got other vocations which pay as well as commando
-prestige is about perception. There's also prestige in being a clerk.
-You can learn a lot of things from other vocations
-not making any sense.

You need to go through commando bmt before you can go ocs anyway.
-theres always risk whether you go commando or don't go commando of not going in. academic results might be a factor, but unless you are failing, if not still got chance.
-there are other vocations can pay as well as commando
-other vocations follows same rank structure
-other vocations can too

To sum up, please advice if i shld say that im interested or not during the interview, given all my considerations

Short advices are fine but if yall wanna type long long to help me decide then all the better, and also correct any of my info if they are wrong cos all this is frm my seniors in army/commados or frm online sources

Well... You can always aim for commando leaders course after bmt. You have to get commando gold during bmt to greatly boost your chances (source from my cdo friends), in fact it is more or less a prerequisite. Otherwise you'll have to be very exceptional like this cdo officer friend of mine (humble and down to earth lad) . Mind you commando ippt gold is not easy. You have to acheive 90 points for ippt.

I wanted to enlist to cdo 10 years ago and was looking forward to it. Passed the selection (called up and check with the cdo admin lady ), but enlistment letter said BMTC. After many rounds of calling between CMPB and CDO, the admin girl in Cdo called CMPB and asked for me.

One aunty from CMPB called me and scolded me over the phone. She scolded :"you still want to apply for scholarship? We are not letting you choose anyway".

My JC is mediocre, studied a little harder and was selected to go for PSC scholarship IQ test and indicated interested in SAFOS SMS ;didn't do well for the IQ test I am not scholar material anyway. "

Take pride in whatever you do.

PS: now a proud black beret in a T-rex :)

As long you like the vocation itself, then go for it. You can either make 2 years of your NS life as meaningful/interesting as possible or simply don't care just keng through it. Is all up to you.

Regardless of which vocation, NS life can be meaningful/interesting. It's up to you how you want to make it meaningful/interesting.

I feel that it is easier to get into OCS from BMT than to get into OCS via the commando route, cos for the latter u have to get into the Commando Basic Section Leader course first (ie get your 3SG stripes) before u are even allowed to go OCS.
