  • CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair - H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($109)
  • Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($453 with CPU)
  • Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($235)
  • Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($159)
  • Storage: Toshiba - 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($165)
  • Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($849)
  • Case: Thermaltake - Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($89)
  • Power Supply: SeaSonic - M12II 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (Already owned)
  • Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (~$15 from Carousell)
  • Monitor: BenQ - XL2411 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor (Already owned)

Total: $2074 (All prices from PC Themes)

Mostly use for watching videos, surfing net, gaming like Overwatch, Skyrim, Crysis, Fallout, Battlefield, COD etc. Can stream once in a while.

Just for Overwatch alone, I would like to achieve more than 200 FPS constantly. Current build with i7-2600k and MSI GTX 970 and I can only get 60-90 FPS during fights. I have a 144hz 1080p Benq monitor so it's not been maximized.
For other games, I'd like to play at max or ultra settings typically as long as the FPS is 60.

First time trying to build a PC from scratch so would be great to hear good advice regarding:

  1. I will be reusing my PSU from the current PC so would that be a big problem? Would like to save cost since the PSU is working fine.
  2. Is Evo 850 250 SSD fast enough for just OS and main programs installation? Should I consider Evo 960?
  3. Any brand that is more value for money for 1080? G1 Gaming seems to be the best bang for buck now.
  4. Might be looking to streaming from time to time at 1080p 60 fps. Can my rig handle it or do I need overclocking?
  5. Are there anything in the build that's overkill for the things I want? Can help to reduce cost further if possible.

No problem at all. At 650W, it is good enough to power your new rig.
  2. Is Evo 850 250 SSD fast enough for just OS and main programs installation? Should I consider Evo 960?
While synthetic benchmarks shows significant differences in read/write speeds of different SSDs at different price points, real world differences between an entry level ssd and a top of a the line SSD is almost negligible, especially when it comes to gaming. Unless you are a serious content creator that need to move gigantic files around, the EVO 850 will serve you well.
  3. Any brand that is more value for money for 1080? G1 Gaming seems to be the best bang for buck now.
Not sure about G1 gaming, maybe others might help.
  4. Might be looking to streaming from time to time at 1080p 60 fps. Can my rig handle it or do I need overclocking?
No need to overclock. Multicore cpus like the AMD Ryzen 1600 can handle many tasks at once efficiently. Since you are doing streaming and gaming at the same time, your choice of CPU is good enough. With that being said, feel free to overclock as all Ryzen CPU SKUs are unlocked.
  5. Are there anything in the build that's overkill for the things I want? Can help to reduce cost further if possible.

How old is the PSU?

Is the cooler really needed? Maybe go for 1600x instead if you are getting the cooler?

Maybe he wants his CPU to be cool :s7:

Yes, 1600 non-X will come with stock cooler, but if you insist on the H60 for whatever reasons, please make sure the package is updated to come with the AM4 mounting bracket, or ask if PCT can provide you separately with it. I made this oversight for my rig, and went back to PCT the next day. YiLong gave me one out of goodwill :s12: (thanks!)

Since 2011 wor. Still working fine as it is so I can't find any reason to change it.

Noted on the AM4 Bracket!

If you are getting your own cooler to overclock, better to top up to 1600x. It got better overclock potential according to users report.

You want to buy a Corsair H60, you are better off buying a air cooling HS like the cryorig H7 which cost cheaper.

Ok guys, ty for feedback! If I go Ryzen 1600X, the cost is below:

• CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor
• CPU Cooler: Corsair - H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($109)
• Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($490 with CPU)
• Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($235)
• Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($159)
• Storage: Toshiba - 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($165)
• Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($849)
• Case: Thermaltake - Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($89)
• Power Supply: SeaSonic - M12II 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (Already owned)
• Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (~$15 from Carousell)
• Monitor: BenQ - XL2411 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor (Already owned)

Total: $2111 (All prices from PC Themes)

However, would it be better to consider a i7 build with no OC? Since pretty sure i7 can handle streaming just fine with HT.

i7 Build

• CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor
• CPU Cooler: Corsair - H80 92.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Already owned)
• Motherboard: Asus - PRIME H270M-PLUS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($612 with CPU)
• Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($209)
• Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($159)
• Storage: Toshiba - 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($165)
• Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($849)
• Case: Thermaltake - Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($89)

why not 7700K or wait for 8700K with minimum H100i V2 cooling or nzxt x52.

Cos dun wan history to repeat.. LOL.. i got 2600k but nv OC it before. So if I were to choose i7 series, doubt i wanna OC.

As for 8th gen intel cpu, prolly wait and see how. I need to buy before end of this year so if they don't come Singapore before that, then 7700 for me then.

Ur choice of casing enough room for GPU?

Sorry I can't rmb how much clearance is there for the the selected GPU u want. Next is that do u intend to PC ram as well? If not can get a cheap one.

As for GPU, can go find of zotac brand (not sure if it is cheaper than that gigabyte but at least their GPU have enough clearance, provided u get the one for SFF

U might want to change ur old PSU if it's more than 5yrs old. I was using a 6~7yrs M12II 520W until recently my pc keep restarting every few hours. Was a having hard time trying to troubleshoot the pc cause the psu voltage look okay and still can power on. Only later found out the 400v 470uf primary capacitor bloated.
Although the psu is using japan Nippon capacitors it'll still failed when it's near it lifespan.

I stream like once in a blue moon, bro. That's y i7 should be better overall, I don't wanna sacrifice any gaming performance cos of streaming. Not like I have viewers also, haha. Stream for fun nia.

Yup, measured already. It's enough. Right now Gigabyte seems to have the cheapest 1080 Windforce for $815, Zotac has $815 but it's the mini version. I looking at G1 Gaming for $849, slightly better clock rate.

• CPU Cooler: Corsair - Cryorig H7 ($65)
• Video Card: Galax EXOC GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X ($809)
• Case: Fractal Design Focus G ATX Black ($79)

Reason 1: air cooling is cheaper, equally good with H60. Water cooling gotta take note of weaken pump in long run, an extra potential failure point to the system.

Reason 2: if you don't manually oc, GPU Boost 3.0 from Nvidia GTX 10 series literally made all their card auto oc when temp and power limit allows. Basically all card are almost the same, dependent on silicon lottery just like CPU. Galax is distributed by Corbell. Price is cheaper than Gigabyte Windforce too. Out of the box clock rate is bullshxt coz in the end, gpu boost will go higher than that. This card is black with red led fans, looks pretty not bad.

Reason 3: it's Fractal Design, it's cheap, it have 2x 120mm white led fan out of the box. No complain on that for me. Or Phanteks P300 is my next budget favourite.

Sent from PM me if you wanna build a DIY PC or wanna learn how to make one yourself :D using GAGT

Thanks man!

For Reason 1: Sure, I will have a look around. Just that I already owned a H80 so might as well use it.

For Reason 2: Actually for GPU, I do manually OC. Just CPU and Ram I don't for my current build. So am I right that after manually OC, GPU Boost 3.0 will boost the GPU even further?

For Reason 3: I want a mATX case due to limited space and TT V21 seems to fit the bill very nicely!

Did urs desktop restart without any blue screen or error code? Mine happened very randomly initially without any warning and it restart more often from 4~5 hrs to 1~2hrs after a few weeks.
If ur psu is out of warranty maybe can open it up to check for bloated capacitor.
