Compact Camera good with low light

I recently bought the first gen rx100 and quite impressed with low light on the small point and shoot. Later generation offer better quality than this

Cant go wrong with either choice. a5000 with kit brand new is less than $400

Thinking of getting second hand sony rx100. The mark 2 and mark 3 version price difference is $150. Not sure which to get. or should I get canon g7x mark I which is same price as sony mark 2.

Being a long time LX5 and m4/3 user, I took the plunge and upgraded to Sony RX100 V. Biggest mistake ever.... Not sure why the reviews are so positive. Handling is bad... lens ring control is laggy with 1 second response time. Lack of physical buttons mean i have to dive into the menu 2-3 level to reach most options. I was spoilt too badly by my LX5 where i can change aspect ratio, iso, aperture, shutter speed, wb on the fly.

I also had very bad experience with the focusing which would defocus and refocus 50% of the time, causing me to miss the moment. Also need to zoom in and check all my shots as some of the "in focus" photos turned out to be slightly blur.

Photos also had very harsh constrast and i had to postpocess almost all the shots. Probably require a lot of tweaking of the settings which i must agree is quite comprehensive.

Saving grace is the useful HDR mode which helps quite a fair bit. Portrait range bokeh is also quite acceptable for a compact camera but don't expect it to match up to APS-C sensors.

Ended up selling my RX after using it extensively for 4 months. LX100 seem to fit the bill for what I need - lots of manual controls and ease of handling. But hesitant as LX200 might be right around the corner

My advice is not to just judge a camera purely based on the specs. Handling is equally important and if a camera fits your style of shooting, you can get more out of it.

Won't be able to tell you which to get since everyone got a different preference. For me, i favour bright lens with lots of manual controls. You should go to Sony gallery and Canon store to try out the cameras, get a feel of it. Bring your own SD card, take some shots and review them on your computer. Don't trust the LCD on the camera as the color and resolution might have been tuned to make it look more attractive
