compact point n shoot

wife requested a Leica camera for her birthday but when I ask she really want something retro looking and able to shoot good photo without too many tweaking..

i don't want to spend too much so I am looking at dlux 7 or Fuji x100

anybody have experience with any of those? last time bought her m4/3 for her before epm-1 she not happy with the results so I worry i later i buy any of those she kpkb..

The choice really depends on what is the focal length she frequently use.
Also how she intend to us it. For example, if to complement the mobile phone for social media, the app must be taken into consideration.
And more so, is video important to her ?
My guess is indoor and low-light is important, so my personal choice will be fixed lens Leica.

You mentioned she disliked the m4/3 system, and dlux 7 is an m4/3 sensor.

In this situation best bring ur waifu down to pick.. buyer remorse is going to be painful..

Yeah basically life photo, scenery.. she usually take photo on mobile phone, and i think is a good idea for her to have some sort of hobby if she into photography with this as the initial motivation.

She is going to leica to check on Dlux 7 see how, my idea is getting something without any lens swapping, just something to snap quickly with good result.. with built in wifi or bluetooth is ideal since we can transfer the photo on the go to the phone if she need to edit or do posting..

I am laughing at how true your comment are.. i am gambling Auto mode will help compensate for the lacking, while she explore the manual setting to get the style she want as time goes by.

i find the control are not too difficult with leica D-LUX7 only aperture, shutter speed, exposure and focus to bother.. if too complex she can switch any of those to auto..

Get her the Leica. if she complained the tools not up to her standard, at least have higher resale value and shop for the next one.

If not, buy anything else is Kpkb one.

Also do consider to get her a desktop tripod.

You may want to consider getting these 2 books by Bryan Peterson first before buying another camera:
1. Learning to See Creatively
2. Understanding Exposure

These books were highly recommended for anyone trying out photography when i started out more than a decade ago.

Let her try out some of the tips and exercises. If there are things she can’t do because some functions are missing from the current camera, only then should you buy a new camera. Then at least you know what features and functions to look out for when shopping for a new cameras instead of just going for brand name.

I find the RX100 interface hard to use and the clunky UI can make you miss shots depending on your photography style and interest.

But if the intent is to use auto mode then I will look at which camera gives the best out of cam images without the need to edit since I’m relying on the camera’s AI. Plus maybe how easy it is to get your photos on social media if that’s your thing.

Leica cameras are not designed to be " point & shoot "
If you don't like to zoom with "feet", also don't get cameras with fixed focal length.
