Was googling for Sim only plans promo and came across this seedly blog. Quite a comprehensive summary but mostly for the standard non-promo plans.

But think they left out ZYM, which seems to have quite good plans and using Singtel network

Their network is not as good as others like vivifi despite both using singtel network. Really bad ping for mobile gaming while commuting.

Also, they don’t support global sms. Company tech team in US tried multiple time to send sms otp and I didn’t receive it while colleagues on circle life and other mnvo managed to get.

switched from M1 to CL to SH. Pleasantly surprised the signal strength is higher, data speed is 10x faster, and latency drop from 23+ms to 17+ms. This is despite the cell tower of SH being further away than M1 at my home.

There seems to be a difference in data speed between giga and SH if I remember correctly. I was hesitant to switch to SH instead of ST as my experience on giga seemed similar to M1.

Maybe can share what did not go right for your family members. I am using the line with IP13 and seem pretty good so far at around the places I frequent, especially at my workplace. However, I did experienced longer webpage loading time on one occasion in a crowded mall, perhaps that's the downside of using MVNO.

As for payment, if one is concerned about having credit card details stored in the portal, can always use a prepaid card, e.g. GPMC, or simply use PayPal.

Bad ping during commute so cannot play game. Also cannot get otp from overseas, issue with global sms.

Choose other mnvo if you can

Can't verify the ping for gaming, but I did experienced longer than expected webpage loading time at crowded places. Not sure about global SMS, as most or if not all the apps I'm using that require 2FA is relying on authenticator apps. My company switched to MS Authenticator / SecurID & the rest of the personal / social apps are linked to Authy. For banking apps, I just use the built-in digital token.

I'm sure that authenticator app will not solve all issues, but nothing is perfect anyway. Cheap and good don't really go well together.

None specifically targeted. Just get whichever plan works with your budget.

The MVNO offerings are quite tempting. I know quite a few parents who put their kids on SIMBA plans cos it's only $10/mo with a lot of data and unlimited mobile-mobile calls. Almost no worry of bill shocks cos they're not likely to blow those budgets.

Your ms and securid still need initial set up though. My company tech team is in US and AU, they tried sending the setup certificate via sms and can’t receive.

It’s the same decision matrix for any plan; how much data your kid needs but also, how much you are willing to pay for it. if we are talking about teens, I think 15GB a month would be pretty average. Vivifi Plus ($11 for 20GB) works pretty well in this case. In the event they somehow busts that 20GB, there is some throttled data which is good enough for WA.

SIMBA is another good option except it has issues with many budget model phones that are commonly given to kids. Also, you will want to be sure they have coverage for the school your kid will be at.

any recommendations for cheap data-only plan for use on tablets?
SIM-only plans from the MVNOs offer a wide range of data allowances that are more than suitable for use with tablets. Ultimately, you need to decide how much data you need (ie what is it you are using the tablet for), & telco coverage for the area you are likely to be using the tablet.

SIMBA’s plans ($5 if you can get a senior citizen to sign up for you or $10 otherwise) are good options, as long as the coverage is not a problem, since it’s main issues with VoLTE compatible handsets is irrelevant for tablet use.

Yep. But given that kids are not allowed to use their phones in school on school days, it narrows it down. Still, zoning is important. If the child is in elite schools, perhaps reception is a bit poorer. I was in one of the Bukit Timah belt schools last week and had a blind spot. :( But quite a few of the students there had better phones than I did :s13:

SIMBA's reception is quite a bit better, for the most part. It's good enough for use imo. As for compatible phones, just get a $200ish current or previous-gen Redmi Note. That's what some friends do. The phone is good enough for the kids, but still supports SIMBA native voice calling because of the *#*#VOLTE#*#* code.

Setup certs via SMS? U mean MMS?
MMS has been depreciated by every carrier here recently.

is there any way to bypass the $38.00 registration fee for Circles life $5 plan?
