Try cleaning my old computer, unplugged almost everything and then assemble back again hoping I can revive him from the dead. Actually, he wasn't "dead", he still can boot to window, but if I start running any program, it will go into black screen after few minutes and later on, freeze. Browsing youtube sometimes will go into black screen, but I still can hear the youtube sound, it will freeze if I press buttons like the window and ESC button etc.

My computer did not boot up, so I try removed 1 stick of RAM and my computer booted up. To make sure the the RAM is faulty, I tried exchanging and it booted up again, I was like "WTH?". So, I try different slots with a single RAM stick, it all booted up, but when I try using dual sticks, it will not boot at all.

Anyone got this before?

Thanks!

Might be ram incompatible with each other. Are they the same brand and model?

Additional, It must be the same speed as well.

4GB x 2 or 2GB x 2 or 8GB x 2

Never had an issue mixing & matching different ram. Put an 8GB KinstonVR with a Crucial Ballistix 4GB stick and both sticks will be limited to the slower of the 2.

The other possibility causing the black screen is usage of a DDR3 (1.5v) ram in a DDR3L-only (1.35v) slot

Mixing ram is a heng/suay situation. Chance of incompatibilty increase with mixing ram.

From the looks of it there is multiple faults in the pc.

Ram i suggest you take both out, rub it with eraser at the contact point and reinsert it. Do make sure you only use the first pair of slots.

If it fails...

Remove only one ram and leave the ram at the first pair slots. If it pass, means could be the ram slot faulty.

Additional things to do if it fails. Run memtest86 on each rams individually. If there is errors, rma the rams.

Next is your black screen issues. If you are hearing sound, high chance is your gpu being overheated. Might wanna check both your graphics card temps and fan movements. If temps are higj but fans are moving, it could be the case having bad airflow or your gpu thermal paste dries up.

You can usually mix speeds and ram capacity(1st-hand experience), but sometimes may not work.

I use a 8 gb + a 4gb for 2 yrs already, can le. Somemore 1 is ddr3 , and 1 is ddr3 L

RAMs can be mixed together. however, there is also a reason why RAMs are sold in pairs. it is to prevent incompatibility. just because you are lucky doesn't mean TS is.

Thank you all for the advices, yes the RAMS are the the same brand -

Corsair Vengeance (2x4GB)

I have 4 RAM slots, I try every slots with only 1 stick of RAM, all will boot up to window.

When I try with a pair of sticks, no matter where I put 1-3, 2-4 etc , it will not start at all.

Go into your BIOS

Disabled "auto" settings for your RAM

Manually set the frequency to 1066

Then install both rams
