Computer noobie needs help :(

Hi i would like to ask if any computer pros out there to help me out on this,
My specs are
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970
8 GB RAM

Can i just change my Graphic card to Gigabite GeForce® GTX 1070 Ti?
Or is it better to change my motherboard as its been with me for a few years

reason for changing is when i'm playing Black Ops 4 there are some lags..

or should i change the whole system :) let me know down below

The cheapest way is to change the gpu and add 8gb more ram

The 970 is still a very capable card. Its likely your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU, not the other way around. You can upgrade to 1070 ti and you wont likely see any performance boost since your cpu can't handle it.

One easy method you can do is to monitor Cpu and GPU loads while playing BO4. If your GPU load is low while your CPU load gets really high(80-90%) then your cpu is bottlenecking the system.

There is no point changing the MB unless you wish to build a new rig.

As someone earlier suggested, you should monitor usage to determine the bottleneck first.

i5 4460 + gtx 970 should be able to run black ops 4 no lag and silky smooth.

1. The lag you describe you referring to stuttering lag or low frame rate? Or frame rate drops below 60 or 30fps? Shouldn't have any problems like this with your specs as it can run silky smooth no lag at 1080p

2. What video settings are you trying to run at? 1080p? 1440? 4k?

3. Your specs is good no need to upgrade to 1070 unless you want to play games at 1440p ultra or 4k.

4. Check if your not running any programs or malware in background process check at task manager see which program taking up cpu process% other then the game you trying to run.

5. Could also be that the game is cpu intensive and not well optimise causing the lag. Wait for a couple of game patches see if it solves the problem or lower the game settings.

Need to know more details before can help you.

So if it’s my CPU That is the problem, what solutions do I have change the whole motherboard?
Also, 970 is still compatible with most of the games now? I dk what’s the problem my bro’s computer doesn’t have any lag and was able to play the games fine..

Hihi, I updated my computer's specs already :) hope it helps and see if a change is required or just minor upgrades

check your ram usage. sounds like its the cause for the stutters.

The best way to monitor throttling is not very straightforward.

Use msi afterburner + RTSS and setup the OSD to monitor whatever you require.
