Hi guys,

My computer will randomly HARD freeze/hang. My screen will stay at it is forever and there will be no response from my keyboard or mouse. The only solution is to hard reboot my computer.
Any solution? Please assist! Thanks!

More Info:
If my computer hangs when I am watching a video or playing games, my speaker will produce a loud buzzing sound. If it hangs let say at my desktop when there is no audio ouput, it will not produce any sound but just hang.
Please see recorded video: 20131129 134416 - YouTube

No overclocking is done

Window OS and BIOS version is up to date

I do not on my pc overnight or 24/7. So should not be overheat

Graphic driver are up to date and I also did clean installation but does not fix the problem.

I request for a change of graphic card (exactly same model MSI Nvidia GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC) from my retailer. I change but does not fix the problem.

I send my CPU to my retailer for diagnose and servicing. They did memtest and etc... and found out NO issue. They changed my power supply just in case the previous one is faulty. However, it still did not fix the problem.

I have NOT YET reformatted my computer but was told to do so by the retailer. I find it too drastic but if there is no solution from the forum then I will do so.

Custom made CPU purchased from a retailer:
OS: MS Window 7 Home Premium
Processor: Intel Core i5 3.40 ghz
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (2 x 8gb)
Graphic Card: MSI Nvidia GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK

Hmm do your windows have any conflicting folders?

E.g. Window 8 there is window.old folder if u had tried to re-install your OS and your old OS will be kept there.

My laptop recently had this problem and was "So Far" resolved after clear away this folder.
I run Memtest 86, Burn in test and graphic test, and chkdsk which all says with not problem noted.

If all the hardware aspect is fine then i think it's your OS causing the problem.

If using wireless, try uninstalling wireless driver & remove wireless adapter to test.
If reusing any old card in ur new com, try removing to test also.

Hi ASUS. Thx for reply

My motherboard is Asus p8-z77-vlk.

Before I diagnose, retailer ask me to go to Corbell service center to replace my gfx card. Corbell found out my gfx card has no issue and only able to exchange a similar (used before) gfx card as goodwill.

After that problem persist and I bring my cpu to my retailer to diagnose. They diagnoses all the hardware parts such as ram, gfx card, harddisk and motherboard but they found no issue. They suspect it could be the power supply so they changed for me. They say that if I want to change motherboard with asus it would take very long because this model no longer got stock... and Asus might not even change if they find out no problem...

unfortunately, the hard freeze problem still persist. They suggest that I reformat my computer and if it still happen then I will have to bring back to them for a motherboard exchange with Asus and they also warned me that it will take a very long time until I Asus will be able to get a replacement for me. I have yet to reformat because I am doing my sch project rite now and I need my data. I could only do so at end of may. I post a thread on this forum just to check whether is there other possible way to find out what is the cause of the problem and how to resolve without reformatting my computer.
anyway I find it hard to belief that it could be a OS problem. My OS is original window 7 home premium and the cpu freezes happens 3 weeks after I purchase my cpu.. I am an IT student so I know how to handle and take care of my computer. there are no malicious software that is running on my computer that would cause a hard freezes.. drivers are all updated.. If is I motherboard issue, I will be really disappointed with ASUS...

@jtjt: the retailer had diaganose my harddisk and they say no issue.

Seems like a harddisk issue. Had a similar issue with my sibling's PC. Changed the boot drive and it's fine. Print screen your HDD test results?

TS, run HDTune and scan for bad sectors. Do not check quick scan.

since the psu has been replaced then left the HDD and the sata cable, if got the a spare HDD. replace HDD and a new sata cable see it work or not, if not it should be a motherboard issue? Just tell asus CS that all the parts you have replaced except for motherboard, they will check and do the rma for u.
if not bring your CPU to gs Bro shop for him to test for you .

Hi guys. Thanks for replying!

The computer retailer that I purchase my custom made CPU is from PC Themes @ Sim Lim Square. I purchase just recently at late-May 2013. I paid them for the repair fee and I trust their diagnostic skills but however problem not resolved. parts are brand new and OS is original so I really dunno what has gone wrong...

@GS: the retailer did a memory test and they say there is no problem with the ram. What is your shop name? My hardware parts is still under PC Theme warranty so I guess it is not so good to let third party physically diagnosis.

@jtjt, felfire and tingster: the retailer did a diagnosis on my HDD too but they say no issue. I am not sure what program they use to diagnosis my hardisk. but they installed unigine valley benchmark (basic edition) on my PC. I don't have spare HDD. what do u mean by changing boot drive? I only have 1 hardisk and is split into C and D drive. C drive holds my operating system and I cannot reformat right now because I am busy using my computer currently. So should I use HDTune free trial to scan my harddisk? how long does the scan takes?
