COMPUTER RANDOMLY RESTARTS

hi all.

My computer is a little over 1 year old, and recently it crashes and restarts randomly. it happens when i watch kodi, gaming(dota), even when it is idling in the desktop. funny thing is, deeep into the game, no restart, but early stages of the game, the com crashes.

thought is my gpu(MSI 970) problem cos i realise my gpu fan not spinning for a while alrd. after using the afterburner, fans were spinning again but problem persists.

one thing to note about the restart problem is, the com will just shut down, then will remain shut down for about 10 secs to 1 min(the time range is really that big), then turn itself on again. thought it was a malware issue but then again com will restart instantaneously instead of the pause before restart.

i recently changed my chassis to phanteks p400. since it is an aluminium case, was wondering if inside too hot force com restart, or its my psu problem?

When computer restarts, note if the fans on CPU and GPU are still spinning. If all stops running at the same time most probably is PSU problem, could send for RMA to check

Fyi the p400 is made of steel. Not aluminium.

if it is random with no clear patterns, like it happened when running some memory intensive programs or simply in idle mode. troubleshoot the rams first. even if the rams passed the MemTest86, get other rams and see if the problem persists. the computer restarted only ? no freezes or BSOD ?

yes my cpu fan is spinning. my GPU fan wasnt spinning initially and i thought could be the problem. but i set the fan to spin in MSI afterburner but problem persists.

alright i will test the ram soon. thanks! yea the computer just restarts. no freeze no BSOD.

check your event log and see if there is any error.

Could it be unstable OC? Changed any settings/hardware other than the chassis recently? Reset to default and see how?

I didnt OC my com. the only setting change was that i played pokemon on an emulator lol.

check your event log and see if there is any error.

could be RAM or HDD problem, can try running windows disk mgmt check on the HDD

Are you using windows 10? Might be the anniversary update bug, either you check for new updates or reinstall windows 10.

Thats what happen to my PC.

the failure rate of RAM these days are almost close to zero, but we can't rule that out

I will first check PSU, then RAM, then mobo, then GPU then hard disk

Go bios, check your 12v rail, 5v rail, etc, to see if the readings are within normal range.

hi all, sorry for the late update was busy with work and only able to check my com as suggested in the earlier replies.

i checked all issues pointed out and seemed to be running well and no problem detected. my mobo has a code that shows which component in the setup got problem. it didnt show anything unusual also.

so accidentally when checking, i knocked onto my table, and my com restarts. and when hit my chassis, the com restarts.

turns out, the cables connecting to the CPU and motherboard from the PSU were loose.
rookie mistake.hope if anyone got the same issue, can check the connection of all the cables first, although i dont think anyone here will have the same noob mistake as me hahaa.

Glad to see that your problem is solved. However to hijack this thread, I have almost the exact same problem, only that my PC only restarts after playing games like dota. For example, without playing dota, I can use my PC for very long time and nothing will happen.

However, if I play dota, I can play for quite some many games. After I exit the game, approximately a few mins, doesn't matter what I am doing, the PC will restart. Could this be a PSU problem? And how do I go about testing if it is?

My components are i5-4670, asus GTX 770, 8Gb corsair dominator ram, 620 Corsair PSU, Asus h87 pro. Thanks for any help!

urs should be psu or some parts of the component that is like overheated and suddenly cooled down. and restart (dunno whats affect this issues.)

24-pins & 4/8-pins connectors on motherboard got latch to clip the hook from PSU to prevent loosening dduringto vibration, etc.

mine got latch but not fully. think i overlooked when i changed chassis.

think is psu problem, if not might be inside temp too high. before this, my com restarted cos my gpu fans were not spinning. not cooling enough= forced restart.
