Computer randomly shuts down

Hi guys

Ever since the previous failure to boot due to oc, I have reverted my coms bios settings to the stock one. However it seems to be shutting down randomly. However this only happens when I'm not home. I know this because I've tried using the chrome remote desktop to access it but it says it's offline. I'm not too sure when exactly it shuts down as I'm in camp, as well as why it does.

How can I go about troubleshooting this and fixing it?

Thanks!!

Check event viewer. Probably a clue to the cause of the problem.

HWMonitor can roughly tell if there is over heating in either CPU or GPU part.

Event viewer can see which app or event causing system to reboot.

The thing is it only restarts when I leave the computer alone only running maplestory and steam.

Nothing happens when I play games such as GW2 or Dota 2 :o

Event viewer can see which app or event causing system to reboot.

Which part of event viewer am I supposed to look under?

Anyway, here are the attached screenshots

the problem is with maplestory, stop playing it and your PC won't shutdown le :p /jk

your temps looks okay, i would bet your PSU is faulty, try swapping the power supply unit from another computer and see if the PC shuts down randomly..

For a moment I actually thought that it was haha. If my PSU is faulty, why does it only seem to shut down when it is idle/ not running much things (When I'm in camp) but not shut down when it is actually doing something like processing a game :s22:

I don't have another PSU to test it by the way ):

hoes does it shut down? proper or just cut off?

also, try running memtest overnight to see if the rams are faulty

TS, I see the HWMonitor listing parts different from your Hardwarezone profile.
Please list down all parts of the rig having shutdown issue.

I'm not too sure how it shuts down because it usually shuts down when i'm not home. Everything seems to be fine, no random shut downs when I'm home and using it.

Wanted to update the parts on my profile but somehow it required me to update my account with my NRIC so i didn't.

The only changes are an additional Samsung Evo 840 and the GPU changed from a 560 ti to a 660.

try to run memtest over night, check for bloated caps on your mbo / Get a new PSU and try ( a decent one) its good to have spare power supply because you will not know when your current PSU will die.

if can try using one stick of ram for a few days and see if it shuts down and swap them if its still happens to shutdown

remove your GPU and switch to IGPU and see if its shuts down randomly. process of elimination is the easy way to find the problem

did you check if there is dust choking your PC?

I'll give memtest a try first, don't really have the spare cash for another PSU ):

My mobo caps seemed to be fine. If the mem tests pass do I still have to troubleshoot and remove the rams 1 by 1?

Also my GPU has been working fine for the past few months would it suddenly act up?

Thanks! :(

Voltage looks normal on the HWM, I highly doubt is PSU issue.
I honestly suggest you to do a clean format and windows installation, after doing simple intel burn test and memtest 86 (if those are fine).

Install all games and drivers again before concluding anything else.
Do you happen to also have the BSOD minidump files and log?

is it very ez for you to reproduce the random shut down situation?

if yes, just bring it to sim lim to ask niggel to test it for you, instead of you wasting more time on it.

if no, then the problem will be very diffcult to fix. once try to rma my system with random bos symptom. Everytime go service center my computer will magically be working fine and strong.

Clean your ram and graphic card gold finger with a eraser to make it shining again. Troubleshoot using one ram per slot see if is ram or slot problem.

I have this problem before. What i did was i change my motherboard. Randomly PC restart when left idle. The problem is you cant recreate the situation at service center. So i have to convince them by taking screen shock and video to show them.

Seems like the current consensus is to run memtest and intelburntest.

I actually ran intelburntest a few weeks ago when it was still OC,do I still have to run it again since my settings were reverted to stock?

The thing is that the reboot seems to only happen when I'm not home (oddly everything works fine when I'm home, maplestory still runs when I'm home). So I have totally no idea what is causing this and how to replicate the scenario.

I try to run both tests on my next book out. If that fails then troublesome each ram stick and clean them and the GPU with erasers and lastly reformat my whole computer.

Kind of want to avoid rma-ing the whole board, and leave it as my last resort. Alot of trouble and have a bad experience rma-ing stuff.
