Computer reboots when I start a game/GPU stress test

Hi guys,

Recently my computer have been restarting - off and on - by itself whenever I start a game or to do a stress test on my GPU. Firstly i thought it was a PSU issue but the RMA guy said it was normal. Then, I moved on the the GPU, went to repairs so I'm using my friend's GPU now, but it is still crashing. I have already passed the RAM test, CPU stress test, re-installed all my drivers - and windows - and confirmed that it wasn't my HDDs making the problem.

Does that mean that my motherboard is the problem?

Should be mobo. Possible to test all your other hardwares on another com that's other than mobo? Then after which you can come up with a more proper conclusion.

den have u tried the gpu at your friend's hse and does it crash?

and next whats the gpu u using and your friend gpu?

well if really mother board will be the gpu slots that is having issues.

I have tested all the parts except the cables and mobo on another computer already. I guess I just have to look forward on getting a new one then?

Then would you recommend me to get a haswell or skylake mobo? Since i'm thinking of saving up my ddr3 RAMs

He passed me one of his rx480, while my old one was gtx770, yes the 480 works

if this is so, shouldn't it be your gpu that is dying? since u say this rx480 works.

It works on my friend's com, but when I brought the gpu over to mine it doesn't

ah but did u do a uninstall your nvidia driver and install amd driver? using DDU to make sure they completely remove nvidia driver?

anyway does your mobo have another gpu slots for u to test?

Yes, i even formatted my sdd and installed new windows.
Tested the other slot, same problem.

guess it might be motherboard then. anyway if still have warranty then go for rma ba.

buy new, still think u should wait for later end of the month or maybe wait till new kabylake den decide what to buy.

Warranty just died a week ago...
Guess I'll just wait till the end of year then.

bro i also have the exact same issue with u , we using same mobo. i also brought my psu down to distro they say no problem.. my hdd/ssd and rams no problem. tested with both my gpus(msi r9 290 and GTX 1070) still randomly rebooting .... strangely enough when I try to play games with my onboard graphics(removed gpu) it wont reboot i really .... I really dont what to do now......

Maybe you can see if you have any spare PSU lying around . Then test it . I have similar issue like yours . Bring down psu they test ok . But after that bring back same . But when I use another psu it's ok . So I video it and send to the distro and they change for me as still under warranty

Same thing happened to me 4 months back. In the end was a faulty sata cable on the HDD. Changed it and its fine now. Hope u have already tried another SATA cable.
