I feel like taking up a degree course in game design and programming but scare very hard to get jobs or long work hours and low pay ( <$2k)

Many people are negative about the job prospect and their salary.

Reason I want to take up this course is because playing video games has always been my hobby. I feel that if I can get a job that is very much related to it then most probably I would be very interested to do, motivated and excel. Then again, like to play game doesn't mean would like to design it. Even if you like to design you also must be very good at it.

I'm bad at drawings but got good imagination, can think of story lines, able to analyze what kind of game is addictive, what game play is fun, and what games is usually popular among the different age group, gender and people.

I have a L4D2 game server which I modified by using mods created by other people to enhance the gameplay in a way I feel will be more fun.

Among all the L4D2 server around the world mine is in the top 15:
L4D2 Singapore 10VS10: Left 4 Dead 2 Server List | Search Left4dead2 Stats, Rankings, and Banners - Game Tracker

If can, would prefer to take up a course that is more programming and lesser drawings.

Anybody here from the gaming course willing to share some insights?

The most reputable game design degree course over here would be the one from Digipen-SIT. Digipen graduates are always held in high regard, digipen itself is one of the best, if not the best game design schools in the world. The course is demanding but the graduates are top notch. I think all game design courses require drawing skills, at least digital art/animation skills. If you don't want to draw, just take up any comp science degree and you will be at the programming side. But you will only be learning the programming part and not the designing part. Even harder because programming is pretty boring and dry but more prospects outside the game design field.

This one actually, a lot of people can do, you're not the only one.

Salary wise the industry pays very well. But finding a job will be hard. Theres not many game design studios here in Singapore, the big names don't have a branch here. LucasArts just closed their base here if I recall correctly. Not sure if there are any indie game studios here but they probably don't pay as much as the bigger companies. So you might have to look overseas for a job.

Digipen RTIS has 1 mandatory art elective. BSGD/CSGD has 3. RTIS has 3 free electives in which you can use to take GAT courses, which may be what you want.

DigiPen is the only course where you will be recognised as a game designer in Singapore. I have been working in the game industry in Singapore for the past 3 years already. If you want to earn money while designing for a game company, I would suggest that you rethink your decision. The starting pay is not good and the salary ceiling is low. Foreigners will most likely be hired as game designers before you do. If you wanna design a game, you can do that even without a degree. Since you're already confident enough with your abilities to see game trends/story lines and analytics, you can go ahead and try. you just need to know about monetization, game progression, balancing and the overall game flow.
Well, I guess what I wanna say is, you would be better off doing something else for money and design games in your free time. The grass is definitely not green in Singapore's game industry.

I'm in the HR field with a non-related diploma and not motivated to work hard because I'm not very interested in it. Took up this job because I feel the starting pay is good plus willing to accept diploma in any disciple.

Did thought of creating games on free time but I feel that if it is my profession it would be even better.

Then again it's just my own feeling, maybe once I really start in this field of job I might not like it as much as I feel.

Should probably start by developing android games first then see how it goes.

After 3 years do you still feel your job interesting or think is tedious and boring?

How difficult it is to look for jobs in your field and usually how to get it?

I got an idea and concept for the game I want to create and thinking of hiring someone to help me do it. It's going to be an android game app.

How likely is the developer going to steal the idea?

What are some of the costs to launch in the android apps store?

Any other things I should know?
