From deadline.com:
The first full-length trailer has dropped for Summit‘s Divergent. Shailene Woodley stars in the sci-fi actioner based on the bestselling novel by Veronica Roth. Divergent is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. When Tris Prior (Woodley) learns she is a “divergent” who doesn’t fit into any one group, she sets out to uncover what’s behind a conspiracy to eliminate all of her kind. Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn, Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, and Theo James also star in the Neil Burger-directed pic. Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor penned the screenplay. Divergent opens on March 21, 2014.

Even though the track record of movie adaptations of popular Young Adult book titles (Beautiful Creatures, Mortal Instruments) have been spotty of late, one should not underestimate the target audience, teenage girls, who had turned out in droves for Twilight and The Hunger Games, making them multi-million franchises.

you're quite right jerry. I guess that's why they don't stop churning out such flicks despite one scathing review after another.

It is not looking good for franchise-hopeful Divergent as reviews have been tepid. It will be trying to emulate the success of the immensely popular The Hunger Games but will its target audience turn out in flocks given its similar premise and the absence of it-girl Jennifer Lawrence?

I think it's perfectly safe, judging from the 37% rotten rating at rottentomatoes.com, that you won't miss much if you decide to skip this unless you are an ardent fan of the book or simply using this as a filler before the next Hunger Games is released.

Critics' Consensus:

Based on a series of popular young adult novels, Divergent is a sci-fi allegory about the dangers of conformity. Ironically, critics say the biggest problem with the film is that it borrows too heavily from the likes of The Hunger Games and Harry Potter, leaving its terrific cast stranded in a sea of exposition. In a dystopian future, teenagers are forced to chose one of five factions with which they'll associate for life. However, Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) doesn't fit neatly into any one group, and her independent streak makes her a target when two rival tribes prepare for war. The pundits say Woodley gives a star-making performance, and her supporting cast is top-notch, but Divergent is too grim and jumbled to fully resonate.

Just watched it. It's a Hunger Games wannabe but lacks so many things. I can overlook the numerous plot holes, but the movie is unnecessarily long.

I hate the idea that favouritism is acceptable. The idea of a faction-based society is also laughable.
