I’ve gotten the USB-C to the Micro-B. So it’s like instead of the USB-A plug, it uses USB-C.

It looks like this:

Product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z5XFH82/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_BfYmFWVldnwr4

I’ve also gotten this USB-C hub:
USB C Hub, HooToo USB C Adapter 3.1 with Type C Charging Port, HDMI Output, Card Reader, 3 USB 3.0 Ports for MacBook Pro 2015/2016, Google Chromebook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K7C53K2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_btyOXIqKnMjiO

However, I haven’t tried the adapter on a heavy load, so I’m not sure how it will fair.

I uses this connecting a couple of my SSD to my MBP directly. No need the superfluous casing :)

Have u tried with other ext hdd with such problem? maybe u should try with your friend's ext hdd to determine if it is your cable and hdd combination or your laptop giving u that problem.

As for the startech cable, you want the most physically robust connecting interface, that would be the one I recommend. The rest of the usb approaches are too filmsy.

Having the usb3.1 standard with USAP supported and also on your laptop, you will get the best speed you can get off the 10gbps interface. (your mileage varies depending on your hardware combination) :)
