I used to have a friend who cycled on the roads in Malaysia. One day, they were hit from behind by a sleepy motorcyclist, I even saw the video where they were flung off the bike.
After that, I told them that cycling on roads without dedicated bicycle lanes is risky and they should be more cautious. But instead of taking it as concern, I got scolded since they said it wasn’t their fault, and that the road is for everyone.
Since then, I’ve stopped commenting. If someone chooses to expose themselves to unnecessary risk, then they shouldn’t complain too much when something goes wrong. It’s one thing to argue for road rights and it’s another to ignore basic safety and expect sympathy every time an accident happens.
