there are two reasons I can think off:

1. someone above already said, they want DPP to provoke them so they have a good reason to attack and take back taiwan

2. KMT has a lot of fund beind lock down by DPP, there is already a talk that KMT has reached an under table agreement with DPP to let them win so DPP will release the fund back to them..

Only naive ppl will think CCP and XJP really fully support KMT or favours KMT to govern Taiwan. Regardless of whether it's KMT or DPP or even TPP, neither party as rulers of Taiwan will give up their power and rights to CCP. So to XJP whoever is the president it doesn't really matters, in the eyes of XJP and CCP Taiwan is and will always be under China , just which type of reunification way.
Under DPP, it will be much easier for CCP to use whatever methods it deem fit.
Under KMT it will be harder because KMT on surface seems CCP friendly but deep down they also dun wan reunification.

Somehow I believe the lesser he talks about Taiwan, the more dangerous it is for Taiwan. If you follow XJP on how he brings down his political foes, he will bring them closer, promote them and give them big case to handle and out of nowhere he will come in for the kill.
Sun Lijun is one of those , 2018 got promoted, 2019 sent to Wuhan to control COVID ( usually big cases leaders will send their best or favorite men to settle, which hints that Sun is XJP trusted men)
Early 2020 Sun was praised or commended for his efforts in Wuhan.. 1-2 months later Sun kena caught for corruption and death sentence. Such corruption cases usually takes months to gather evidence and etc, so meaning XJP alrdy planned for it
