The alleged murderer of Audrey Fang, the Singaporean tourist who disappeared in Xàbia and whose body was found on April 10 sewn up with knives in a terrace in Abanilla (Murcia), was motivated by an economic motive . This is what the family of the victim believes, a 39-year-old architect whom the suspect picked up with her car outside the hotel in Xàbia where she was staying , as reported yesterday by the Civil Guard .

The suspect, 43 years old and whose initials are OM , was arrested on Tuesday at the Alicante hotel where he was staying : there investigators found evidence of the savage murder for which he was brought to justice this Friday in Cieza. In front of the judge, and assisted by two lawyers from Alicante, he took advantage of his right not to testify. The head of the Investigative Court number 3 of Cieza sent him to provisional detention, communicated and without bail , judicial sources indicate.

He had a large sum in his hotel

Sources close to the investigation detailed that, in the hotel room where the suspect was captured, investigators found a large amount of cash .

As a curiosity: this man had no known job and was wearing sneakers valued at a thousand euros . The victim's relatives believe that there is an economic motive behind the death. They do rule out, however, that Audrey had business with her compatriot and alleged murderer.

According to media reports from the city-state of Singapore, the woman, an architect by profession, had even told her relatives that she could meet a friend in Spain. But the family assured that she did not know which friend she was talking about.

The car, captured by cameras

It should be remembered that Fang was on vacation in Xàbia, where he stayed in a luxury hotel with a spa . He had a reservation from April 4 to 10. Her family last spoke to her on April 9 . Audrey arranged to meet them to pick her up at the Singapore airport on the 12th. But she never took the flight back to Asia that she was supposed to have boarded in Barcelona on the 11th.

With the investigations underway, the hotel's cameras were essential to clarify the crime : they recorded how the woman was picked up by a vehicle at the exit of the establishment , the night before her murder . Although the poor light did not allow the license plate to be seen, the agents found out the make and model after analyzing its size, the size and shape of its front and rear lights ; and "another series of meager details", in the words of the Civil Guard.

Through this identification, they knew that the car had left a parking lot near a hotel in Alicante shortly before , from where it traveled to Xàbia first, and to Abanilla, later. It was there, in a field next to an old inn, where he abandoned Audrey's body, stitched up with knives - she had more than 30 stab wounds - and with a severe blow to the head.

Too much cruelty

Despite the cruelty, typical of crimes with emotional connotations, the Civil Guard maintains that it is not a case of sexist violence because there was no relationship between them , although it is obvious that they knew each other, since if not, the woman would never she would have gotten into the car with him with the confidence that can be seen in the recordings .

In fact, there are still numerous details to be known, such as the details and nature of that supposed friendship (the woman had told her family that perhaps she was going to meet a friend in Spain), what the plan was when she met him and if there was any kind of attempt by the now detainee to force Audrey into an unwanted sexual relationship .

Meanwhile, Audrey Fang's brother, accompanied by two more relatives , along with an interpreter provided by the consulate, have been in Murcia since Wednesday, after flying from their country to Alicante. At a quarter to ten in the morning this Friday they arrived at the Cieza court to appear as a private prosecutor.

The brother recognizes the corpse

Upon their arrival, serious and saddened , they did not make any statements to the journalists gathered at the entrance of the building, in the rain. The brother was the one who recognized the woman's body, which remains in the premises of the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Murcia.

Legal sources stated that "the instructor, after receiving the preliminary autopsy report on the 12th , in which it is provisionally concluded that the cause of death was injuries caused by a knife and head trauma , and having been collected by the doctors forensics all the samples for the investigation of the circumstances in which the events occurred, authorized the visit of the next of kin to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

According to the same sources, "it is expected that the delivery of the body to the family for the repatriation of the body and its subsequent burial or cremation will take place in the next few hours, after judicial authorization."

Manuel Martínez, the lawyer who defends the interests of Audrey Fang's family, emphasizes that there was treachery in the crime , which is why he emphasizes that it was a murder, not a homicide . "The Civil Guard is doing a commendable job," emphasized Martínez, who also insisted that the victim and the alleged murderer were not a couple, so it would not be a case of sexist violence.

30 stab wounds dun look economic motive, confirm is driven by r/s motive. The fact she flew all the way to Spain means both knew each other well so surely not a simple case of robbery.

"When Audrey went missing, her family scoured several social media sites for clues. On one of them, on Instagram, they discovered that Ong Mitchell was in Spain and a former colleague of Audrey's told them that she told her about him a few years ago. Mitchell is a 190cm tall, very burly and muscular man who dressed in expensive clothes, stayed in luxury hotels and rented high-end cars to move around the country. The type of relationship they had is still a mystery. It is clear to her entourage that they knew each other before, but they cannot specify the degree of affinity between the two because, according to her family, "Audrey was a very reserved girl". In addition, Mitchell was scheduled to meet his partner, a Ukrainian citizen, the next day at the hotel. According to sources close to the case, the strongest hypothesis is that there is an economic motive. Audrey was involved in a kind of investment fund and had recently transferred some money to an unidentified third party. However, it is not ruled out that the murder may have been linked to a possible sentimental relationship."
