Stage set for 4-way fight in Tampines GRC; PAP and WP go head-to-head in Tampines Changkat SMC

Tampines GRC looks set to be contested by (clockwise from top left) the incumbent PAP team, and teams from WP, NSP and PPP.

Three opposition parties will duke it out in the quest to win Tampines GRC and unseat the incumbent PAP team led by Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli.

After successfully submitting their nomination papers at Poi Ching School in Tampines Street 71, the WP, National Solidarity Party and People’s Power Party will go up against the PAP when Singaporeans go to the polls on May 3.

last time, GRCs were used to parachute a few JLBs on the coat tail of a heavyweight minister
it worked provided there are heavy weight ministers worth their weight in gold
eg. LKY, GCT, LHL, Tharman, etc....

These days, some of the pap ministers are just as behkan as the minnions they trying to piggyback in ...
can it still work?

WP said don't want risk electoral success so pull out from MPBH. But ended up in 4 corner fight in Tampines GRC.

Worth the risk? :s22:

Let see if 4 cut corner fight can WP fight and win Tampines GRC.

PAP, WP candidates for Punggol GRC address supporters

Coming out to loud cheers from WP supporters, newcomer Harpreet Singh said it is the “privilege of a lifetime" for him and his fellow candidates Alexis Dang, Alia Mattar and Jackson Au to step up and run for the election in Punggol GRC.

He called for greater affordability, a better education system and fairer politics where “the People’s Association starts treating every Singaporean fairly, no matter how you vote”.

He said WP is ready to lead the change, promising that his team will work hard for Punggol GRC.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong took the stage next with his team, consisting of Dr Janil Puthucheary, Ms Sun Xueling and Ms Yeo Wan Ling.

“My team and I will continue to work hard to earn your trust and confidence, to continue to serve you for the next five years to secure a better future for Punggol,” he said, adding that GE2025 is “also about Singapore’s future”.

Dr Janil spoke next, promising to bring good jobs into the Punggol Digital District, deal with transport issues in the area and keep the estates well-maintained and clean.

Still working very well for them...

They'll lose seats left and right if its SMC instead
current PAP got any minister who is capable of carrying an entire GRC on his/her own?

I can't think of any other than LHL or maybe Shanmugam (but ridout is not a good look for him)

Think PAP might be having a power struggle now, LW is obviously in a GCT-like situation (back then LKY was pulling the strings so GCT eventually have to step down to make way for LHL).

Maybe LW is seeking to consolidate his base by installing his people, and pushing all those not inside his camp to the more dangerous areas. TCH, etc. are the LHL's camp one.

Putin also did it with Medvedev last time too.

current PAP is the weakest it's ever been, LW is unwise if he ejects LHL's 3G & 4G now

he is resorting to shuffling the likes of GKY, TSL, ET around to hotly contested GRCs
those 3 are hardly heavyweights, more like humpty dumpty instead

and he has nobody to helm West Coast Jurong, where a tough fight is expected
