Continuous ticking sound when using audio dongle

Just got the 7 plus yesterday and when I tried using the audio dongle with my normal earphones, I keep hearing a ticking sound, it continues even when playing music. The music keeps fading and coming back cos of the ticking. Is that normal?

Was okay for a while yesterday. Then it came back today again. Tried replugging but still there tho
