any1 went for new year countdown near taipei 101 before? is the crowd and traffic v bad?

bringing my mum this time so am considering nearby hotels if the commute is terrible after countdown (means hard to get back to TMS or XMD).

Appreciate any recommendations too. tks

Yes, definitely packed, same for all places for such events.
Look for hotels in Xinyi district, save on transport, but pricier since its close to Taipei 101.

If you just want to see the fireworks on 101 and not the countdown performance, there is quite a number of bar/pub or restaurants with 101 view like frank taipei.

I heard from a friend whom went a few times. It's madness beyond Singaporeans imagination. We are too protected and will get shocked how overwhelming and crowded the event is. You go in early to the front, be prepared unable to squeeze your way out. Also public transport will be closed on the area, so be mentally prepared to walk after the show.

That's a definite, scale is much larger than our Marina.
Best to get hotel in vicinity so can walk short distance and crash liao.

Went for countdown in Dec 2016. The hotel prices are very high especially on NY eve.

I remembered after the countdown I walked to Yongchun subway station to take the train back to my hotel (was staying at XMD area) as the place was so packed.

I would suggest you to just book a hotel in Xinyi District if you are going for the coutndown.

Watch fireworks, climb elephant mountain to have different view of fireworks.
Enjoy the change in atmosphere from SG.
