POSB provide free insurance for 1 month to their customers. You need to register online. After 1 month you need to pay for it.

What do you want the insurance to do if you were to have a case of COVID-19? The government is covering your COVID-19-related medical care, right? What else are you looking for?

Why do you need $100/day for a hospital stay due to COVID-19? If you’re in the hospital for pneumonia that isn’t COVID-19, $0/day is perfectly fine, right?

What real problem(s) are you trying to solve? Wouldn’t you be better off bolstering your emergency reserve funds instead of spending money on COVID-19 lottery tickets?

He's just trying to have more coverage. Can't target him for that, right?

Maybe in your eyes, it's irrational. But to him, it's perfectly fine to overprotect?

I'm all in favor of protection, but you have less protection against all other calamities and catastrophes if you're buying lottery tickets. S$100/day for a hospital stay due to one specific viral infection is a lottery ticket, not genuine insurance. You might as well head over to Singapore Pools to buy a TOTO ticket.

By the way, the government is already paying S$100/day Quarantine Order Allowances directly to self-employed Singaporean citizens and Permanent Residents who are quarantined for COVID-19, not only during hospitalizations. The same S$100/day is paid to the all employers (including employers of foreigners), which is a powerful motivation to keep an employee on the payroll and on paid sick leave.

If you feel you don't have enough insurance to cover COVID-19-related incidents, do you have enough insurance to cover pneumonia-related incidents that aren't COVID-19? It's a very fair question. It's a complete mystery to me why somebody would care which virus caused a particular situation. Who cares whether it's COVID-19, COVID-18, COVID-20, or KOVID-19? It doesn't matter! (Sure, it may matter in terms of your treatment, but if you're hospitalized for 12 days or whatever it doesn't matter why.) Surely it's the actual situation that matters, right? Unless you want to buy a lottery ticket.

Did he say he is self-employed?
