Similarly it is not a smart thing to place too much emphasis or too much weight on something that has rare chance of occurring.

Why will pap thrash it own feet by increasing interest rate for cpf oa when they own investment vehicle does not generate enough to cover say a 7% cpf oa 🤔

Because of market forces.

suggest don’t bring in conspiracy to this forum. That can remain in EDMW

Dun get me wrong. there is nothing conspiracy on this or politics. It does not make sense for a government to offer higher interest unlike it is desperate to keep their own dollars in the country itself like Russia. Or Japanese government because to keep interest repayment low on their loans.

Unless you are suggesting the conspiracy that the government is telling the 3 local banks not to raise their interest rates, OA rate will increase based on a formula whether the government likes it or not.

The other way of looking at it is, the legislated minimum of 2.5% pa has been very above market for at least since 2008, 14 years already.

I think you purposely made the jump to 7% as you well know SMRA rates are 4, 5 or 6% pa.

Cpf oa is not easy and I do not think too much weight should be placed on.

Cpf sa is easier with how they peg it to sgs10yo plus 1%. Obviously anything can happen with policy changes. And, Singaporeans have enjoyed a good 4% for this decade.

Government and monetary policy is very dangerous and is quite frankly in my greatest opinion, it is understated or improperly priced in. There's always obviously a price for anything. But this price should/must depend on an individual judgement, not some mumbo jumbo.

I guess it really depends on how skeptical some would be.

Not a very rare or uncommon way of thinking. It's not just Singapore.

US Congress and Biden
UK and the Boris
India and Modi
China ccp and Xi
Russia and Putin
Japan and its central bank
Singapore and 4th generation leaders
And so on

Government interference is parts and parcel in life and is a double edge sword.

Different people diff thinking. Like you said neither rate or uncommon, but that is not blanket.

It is quite unlikely for local banks to offer higher than 2.5%

This initiative should come from foreign banks first
