CPU de-lidding questions

I want to venture into de-lidding some intel CPUs. Any first hand experience or advice?

I read that some CPUs are soldered. Does it mean I cant de-lid those CPUs?
How about using liquid metal? If I use Thermal paste like Kryonaut or MX4? Will it be sufficient?

There are various Youtube videos on delidding.

Soldered CPUs can be delidded but that is for experts only.

Liquid metal works great (I'm using it) but you have to be careful not to get any on the MB or CPU capacitors.

You can use normal thermal paste. Just a few degrees difference.

I think you need to think why you need to de-lid in the first place? Are you attempting some extreme overclocking?

While the benefits is significant especially with the older 8xxx series, it really only helps those that are pushing it to the extreme.

yeap, delidded my i7-4790K, temp went down but not a big difference. i think overall ur cooling method also plays apart, whether u aircool or use custom water loop (for my case i was on corsair H100iv2)

There's loads of YouTube videos on delidding, famous ones being Nexus Gamer, Linus Tech Tip, debauer

Delidding is only worth it if doing it on those processors that uses lousy thermal goop (*cough Intel cough*) between the processor and the IHS, and replacing it with higher thermal conductive compound, ie. liquid metal.

For processors that are already soldered on (ie. AMD Ryzen 5), the temp difference from delidding is negligible, and you do require higher skill level to handle it delicately.

If you're still keen on it, get a proper delid tool (I have a new debauer tool BNIB not used lol) and a couple of 3rd gens Intel processors as training (cost around $10/pcs?) before working on your new processor. FYI, warranty will be voided
