CPU/GPU temps within safe limits?

Thanks for sharing bro. Wow u can run at 4.2Ghz on a stock cooler? I use 1.20v when I tried manual OC, it actually ran stable no crash. Only after I change from 'Manual' to 'Offset' mode that it crashed, even after upping 0.10v incrementally doesn't help :( Thats why I reverted to automated OC for now.

My current temps at idle is around 31-32C and max of 80C at load quite similar to yours. I always did the IBT at maximum though but for this round I used Aida64 instead and it ran for about 12 hours no problem. But don't know why games still crash :( I reformatted and reinstalled OS recently so I will run more tests see how.

games are different loads as compared to fpu computation go to offset but increase more. noctua dh14 is not bad cooler. one of the best aircoolers nearly intruding into watercooled territory

Thanks bro. I read somewhere this offset can be done at AI Suite III menu inside Windows I see if I can get it done there. I'm not familiar at how those levers/slides work in that utility tho :o

Im running IBT at 'Very High' with max temp of 90C. I can't select 'Maximum' as it says it cannot run with more RAM as indicated than what is physically detected..

Thanks bro. So strange it idles at 63C? You using stock cooler? Yeah I remember the last time my 'leave blower' ATI HD4870X2 can shoot temps to 98C when playing Crysis until PC locks up and reboots. What I don't understand that despite the auto/manual OCs, CPU temps were never an issue, but still can crash... My GPUs usually idles at low 40Cs, just that I have 2x 120mm fans blowing directly at them that's why their temp can be so low (31-32C) at idle.

yes you can under the TPU tab iirc

its easier since there's a graph as compared to uefi

:eek: 99C!! how come you don't change to a custom CPU-Cooler? my PC got 9 fans inside, excluding 2 on the CPU-Cooler and 6 on the 2 GPUs :D periodically I will use a vacuum cleaner on my PC esp all the case grilles.

You using an Asus mobo also bro? I did try to add the Offset value after seeing a Youtuber's comment on how he OC using AI Suite III but I don't know how the slider works :( Still doing IBT with max temp of 93C now. If it fails or crashes I'll try doing the offset method in AI Suite III TPU. I can leave the automated 4.2 Ghz settings untouched and just do the offset right? Pardon a noob :o

I actually did the manual OC after seeing this at HardOCP under "How to overclock your Haswell quickly" :

It works just that only if I leave it in 'Manual' mode :(

can remove the stock cooler and put a frying pan above the CPU to fry an egg bro :s13: obviously the PC is nowhere near where you are sitting? I can have a mini sauna the last time I played Crysis using an ATI HD4870X2 inside my PC case which is just next to my legs. If didn't on aircon I literally sweat while playing :s13:

Guys is this how I do the offset? I only did for the Core voltage, is there a need to do the same for the Cache voltage as well? I'm editing the automated OC settings @ 4.2 Ghz which shows a core voltage of 1.200. I tried upping it by 0.010 increments (not 0.10 right because that would be a huge increment) to 1.210 and 1.220 but both BSOD. I checked web and some suggested up it by 0.40 (I trust its 0.04?) so I use default + offset to 1.24v (within 1.25v limit) ok or not? If I did the wrong settings, it'll just crash and reboot right? Hope no explosions :s13:

Guys I just did 6 hours of Prime95 with the settings in the AI Suite III ('TPU' page) at "CPU Core Voltage" : 1.2v + Offset 0.04v = 1.24v and it didn't crash. I did not change the settings at "CPU Cache Voltage" - do I need to?Is this the correct way of doing offset? All the other settings are configured by the AI Suite III's automated OC profile of 4.2 Ghz. I'm going to do 20 runs of Intel Burn Test (IBT) to test again.

According to HWMonitor, the max temperature reached during Prime95 test was 92C but on average it hovers between 60Cs-70C+ sometimes peaking at 81C. Do I use the average or max temperature as a guide as to whether the OC temperature is safe?

looks like you need to void warranty and delid your 4770K if 42x is giving you 93degs or you can try going under water. But that is dependant on the stress test program. OCCT, AVX and Linpack will also produce the same results. IETU on the other hand will give you temps ard 80deg on air. When benching aafter OC, it is recommended to switch the voltages to full manual. Some programs will bump the VCC to pretty high levels, if the heat cannot be dissipated fast enough, you may suffer a chao tar chip.

Chances are that your daily usage won't even hit 90deg. Once the CPU hits 90deg it will start throttling so even if it doesn't BSOD, I would term it as un stable.

I had a lousy draw on my 4770K and only able to go up to 44x stable. 2 days ago I tried AVX on my CPU and the temps hovered around 83deg and I'm delidded and underwater.

I run FAH 24/7 and my hottest core reaches 73deg on a hot day. Otherwise it's high 60s

Thanks bro. Oh yes I forgot to put it back to Manual mode after fixing the OC. But 93C is the highest temperature reached - as in periodic spikes - not its constant/average temperature while running Prime95. Most of the time, I observe the temperatures hovering between 66C to 78C, sometimes peaking at 80/81C at the most. To be honest, the temperatures I see while running Prime95/IBT etc they don't occur during normal usage - the hardest pressure I put on the CPU is when I'm playing Crysis/Crysis3 or when I'm benchmarking Unigine's Heaven/Valley.

You are right, even if it doesn't crash after 6 hours of stress testing it doesn't mean that its stable. But conversely, wouldn't it also mean that while gaming, the CPU would never be put thru the amount of stress that Prime95/IBT is putting on it, don't talk about 6 hours, I hardly game for more than 1.5 hours. So its not truly reflective of actual normal usage scenarios.

I just did IBT at maximum stress level and im seeing max temp at 97C :eek::eek::eek: Eventho its not a constant temperature but I don't want a chaotar chip. I'll play some games at the present settings. If they go above the normal low 70Cs (max 80C) then i'll just revert back to the automated 4.2Ghz OC settings (which is actually giving me very good temperatures and I could play Crysis for an hour or so w/o any problems). When I last tested a few weeks ago, it only crashes like after 6 hours so i'll just tell myself don't game for more than 5 hours :s13:

Pekchek, im supposed to be HAVING FUN, i bought my rig to play games, not to stress myself over manual overclocking :mad:

OC is fun... especially when you're trying to squeeze the last Hz out of it. I'm still trying to squeeze the 46x out out of my 4770k

Yalah have to relax :D hey thanks for all your inputs guys, really appreciate it. Now playing Crysis3 on my half-baked "manual" OC I checked the temps its about the same as when I was using the automated OC :s13: I won't know if this "manual" OC is "more stable" than Uncle Asus' one until I keep playing for more than 6 hours :s13: I'll let the game idle overnight and check tomorrow morning's if it crashed to desktop/auto reboot. If it does not, kiong-hee ah I save the settings. If it does crash then i'll just revert back to Uncle Asus' automated OC settings. Uncle Asus' OC is actually quite stable, just that about 6 hours+ later the game will crash. So i'll just limit myself to play games for less than 5 hours per session which is actually easy-peasy :s13:

I get a rough idea of what you guys are saying, I just need to wring my brain to read further into it and get myself to make time to find the way to do it properly...
