6 years of no competition yay

And the only "competition" is by removing the cursed "CMT" and giving one ALU one FPU which results in a theoretical 60% increase in total performance if we reverse-calculate from the bullshyt performance claims that CMT brings in the case of 2 ALU 1 FPU.

Still keeping my i5 3470 as spare next time can buy 1155 mobo and reuse ivy bridge cpu no need chase after latest 6 gen 7 gen cpu can save money.

Good 1155 mobos are a bit difficult to find. I had one which I held onto for months as a spare because of this reason.

I sold it off this afternoon only because I wanted to clear space.

I think Sandy Bridge was the last CPU that saw a healthy improvement. Subsequent CPUs from Intel are looking at a miserable improvements. Kaby Bridge is the new low from Intel since there is barely any improvements except for the increased clockspeed. Only when AMD announced Ryzen before Intel came out and mentioned something about a new chip. I am not sure if is too late since they no longer have the advantage of a more superior fab for their chip.

To be fair, I can see slight improvements of clock speed per wattage and features like VT-D and AES-NI being spread out from the top to the bottom over the generations

Just that unfortunately, most mainstream applications don't need these

There exists an article about how Intel released compilers that purposely gimp performance of non-Intel-recognized CPU. Even if it may be a newer CPU from Intel.

It is also possible that because of this, or otherwise the worry of incompatibility, that newer programs are unwilling to make the programs specifically tailored to newer CPU. Remember MMX, SSE, SSE2? With the current business climate and most money coming from people with old computers.

At the most ppl is use vt-x n vt-x (if use VMware, vbox or KVM)

None of the newer extension is that useful in consumer setting......

If ryzen is really that said as ppl say, ppl next likely desktop upgrade is to that platform, especially if ddr3 is going to be less common in the future...

We will know soon enough. There should be an announcement at CES.

VT-X and VT-D you mean?

And yes, I don't recall seeing the newer extensions being mentioned as a requirement anywhere

All I know for gaming is that as long got enough clock speed (not even number of cores/threads) can liao :s13:

Got one lar: Haswell is very good with emulators.

But this kind of thing is you really have to use it to know it.

Does the same apply to Skylake?
