CPU running but no display

hi guys,

was using my desktop just now watching a video on facebook and suddenly the screen just went off. cpu was still running.

already tested that it's not monitor failure.

problem started about 1 mth ago.
sometimes when i try to switch on my desktop, cpu will run but no display. after a few tries then can.

now totally no display, cpu still running but will auto off after running for a while.

i'm using onboard gfx (biostar g31m) because my gfx card died on me sometime back.

please help!

How did you confirm that the gfx card was bad ? Did you just remove the gfx card and use onboard and it worked. You concluded that the gfx was bad.
1. One possible cause is the capacitor on the motherboard has failed.
Example of bad capacitors. Good ones have flat top.

2. Bad power supply. Need a spare to confirm.
3. Bad motherboard.

i checked the capacitors already, seems okay.

no spare to check power supply

highly suspect it's motherboard (just changed 2 years ago) that is faulty but i got no spare motherboard to test.

could it be because of a bad processor also>

Remove the gpu from mobo and plug the vga connector to the onboard vga port.
If there is signal = high possibility gpu is spoiled.

im already using on board graphics.
cos my gfx card spoit a while back

can try boot with one stick of RAM? swap if cannot, your RAM could be faulty. next is to check your PSU with a paperclip

Short the green pin with any black pin using a paper clip on the 24pin ATX connector then turn it on. See if the PSU shuts down after the same period of time.
