Hi guys. I know it's kinda silly question, because all nsmen know it's 7 highs 3 lows. I just did my 2nd low, and in total I have 6 high and 2 low now. I received the 10 years medal and swiss army watch this year, and should be expecting a HK next year. Any idea if I should be able to receive the cert and MR next year after the HK?

Either a)7 HK + 3 LK or b)at least 7 HK +10yrs ORNS cycle complete. If your unit G8 (NSMen Affairs officer) lenient (as most of them are), he will close one eye and give you cert after you fulfilled option b).

Also, please note that serving 2 HK in 1 SAF work year (1st April to 31 Mar following year) only counts as 1 HK, so count your HK carefully or double-confirm with your Unit G8.

So next cycle when I do my HK, chalking to 7 high and 2 low, even though I had received my 10 years medal and watch, I may not ROD and MR, right?

actually, to clarify, call up your NS unit, talk to the chief clerk and ask when you ROD. they will know best. and a lot of NSmen do that.

some units may practice 7 HK + 10 ORNS, or 7 HK + 3 LK, etc etc but ultimately it is your unit admin side who will process your ROD/indent your free watch etc etc.

After 40th bday, can they still call you? Or need to be after 41st bday? Heard that official MR date every year is April, so it doesn't go by your bday date to be exact, need to see your bday against the yearly MR date.

If you are those that completed 7HK + 10 ORNS cycle but have not reach 40 years old, your official MR date will be at the end of SAF workyear. From the date of your last ICT till the end of the workyear, you will still be eligible to be call up for manning

But if you are those that hit 40, they won't call you back anymore after your birthday. Need not wait for the end of the SAF workyear

So meaning if next FY I do my 7hk +2lk in 10 years, I am safe to ROD get the cert already?

From what I know shortly after your 40th birthday they will send you a letter informing you that you have no more NS liability.

Exactly 7 days after my 40th birthday, Mindef sent me a letter titled "National Service Liability". The first paragraph reads: "With effect from XXXXXX, you are no longer liable for National Service .... From that date, you will not longer be required to apply for an Exit Permit ...."

nth much has changed since 2016

Once you hit your 40.. another few months they sent you letter tell u thank you for serving and paying tax. The next thing is gather all barang go donate at SAFRA or camp lolxx unless your son still need your stuff
