CPIB and AG must be very short-handed.

Took so many years to investigate and charge Choo Wee Khiang (former PAP MP). Offences committed in 2005-2007, now then the case is heard in Court.

Not surprising because they have got to send 6-8 people to protect key witnesses such as Cecilia Sue in Ng Boon Gay's case.

So if this National Parks' case is heard in 2013 or 2014, it's considered very fast already. We would be lucky if we hear anything of it before 2015.

Corruption charges

From 2005 to 2007, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) received several anonymous complaints against Choo alleging that he had charged his personal airfares, expenses, phone bills to STTA and received gifts from Chinese coaches and players. The total amount involved about S$10,600. The offences were allegedly committed during Choo's tenure as the president of the STTA.

The CPIB conducted investigations revealed that in 2005, Choo had received S$1,500 from Liu Zhongze, who was then a national team player, and Luo Jie, who was then an assistant coach of the STTA, in return for giving Liu more opportunities to represent the STTA in table tennis tournaments. Between 2003 and 2004, Choo is believed to have accepted USD$600 on two separate occasions from Shi Mei Sheng, who was then a STTA coach for approval of usage of two different training facilities in China.

On 8 December 2011, Choo was charged with three counts of corruption and one of criminal breach of trust. Koh Li Ping, former High Performance Manager of STTA, was also involved in the criminal breach of trust charge.

The CPIB said that between 2002 and 2003, Luo Jie, whose work pass only permitted him to work for STTA, provided table tennis training to students of Fuhua Secondary School. But the school was unable to pay him for the training provided, which amounted to S$8,400. Luo Jie told Choo and Koh about this, both of them then allegedly arranged with the school principal to engage STTA in a new training arrangement. The proceeds for the new training arrangement received will be used to pay Luo Jie for the outstanding fees. After STTA received the payment from the school, Koh obtained approval from Choo to authorise a payment of S$8,400 to Luo Jie, even though the latter did not provide any training services under the new training arrangement.

Choo's case has been adjourned to December 22. If found guilty of corruption, he can be fined S$100,000 and jailed five years for each charge. The punishment for criminal breach of trust is a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine.[2]

Archive here first for chronological logging.

Investigations on Brompton bike case completed, is now before public prosecutor

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) has recently completed their investigations into the purchase of 26 foldable Brompton bicycles by the National Parks Board (NParks) last year.
The case is now before the public prosecutor "for assessment and determination of whether there is any offence disclosed", said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
He was responding to Non-Constituency MP Lina Chiam, who had asked for the status of the CPIB investigations.
CPIB first investigated the case after an internal audit found "possible indications of corruption of procurement", he said. It submitted its findings to the Attorney-General's Chambers, which then directed it to make further investigations.

By Royston Sim
The National Parks Board (NParks) assistant director behind the controversial purchase of 26 Brompton bicycles has been charged with providing false information to government officials.
Bernard Lim Yong Soon, 42, allegedly told Ministry of National Development (MND) officials that he did not have a personal relationship with Lawrence Lim Chun How, a director of BikeHop Singapore that won the contract to supply NParks with Brompton bikes.
Bernard Lim was also charged in a district court on Thursday morning with abetting Lawrence Lim to lie about their friendship to MND officials conducting an internal audit on the tender.
The NParks' purchase of 26 Brompton bikes for $2,200 each from BikeHop came under scrutiny for irregularities in the tender process. The MND suspended Lim and referred the case to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau last July. His case will be heard again on Sept 27. Those guilty of providing false information to a public servant face up to a year in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

Why drag so long then charged?

What took CPIB so long to investigate this??? Huh??

CPIB completed the investigation more than half a year back I believe. DPM Teo responded to NCMP Lina Chiam regarding this some time back.

What is being delayed, is whether there's any wrongdoing(s).

So someone who murders someone and say he didn't do it to police will only be charge with providing false information, or will there be more charges ?
