Ctrip hotel booking

Anyone here booked hotel using Ctrip before?
Seems like some of their rates are lower than other hotel booking websites.

But heard of some bad things like them charging your credit card even before your reservation is confirmed.

only booked train tix before.

and yes, in my case, they did charge before the train tix were confirmed as the tix were booked before the reservation window was open.

Can try elong also....i use their website to book hotels in shenzhen n guangzhou....so far no issues.

didn't notice if they charged my card before the reservation was confirmed, but i got my room when i arrived in china, so that was all the matter.

what i wasn't used to is that the chinese hotel charged a daily deposit after i arrived despite the room being paid for already. they kept to the word and refunded it the last day though. but it was confusing and it refund it via credit card although i paid cash.

then again, i kinda understood why after hanging out at the lobby and hearing so many things go missing when people check out...

I've also heard that they require some sort of credit card security verification for first time bookings.
Something like having to send them a scanned/photocopy of your credit card and passport.

By the way, anyone successfully tried booking hotels outside of China through them?
