is someone smoking at the pm2.5 sensors @west @ south sg @ 10pm? hourly pm2.5 @west is 442 and @south is 299.

I thought it's an error at NEA site but 19oct@11pm, pm2.5 @west is 471 and @south is 301. NEW HAZE RECORD!!! Will it break the 500 barrier? From the last 2 hour reading, I'd say its possible! Looks like our combined effort with My and Indon is failing big time! Makes me wonder: Are they pouring water or palm oil onto the burning forest?

The blazing is over Sumatra and Kalimantan. And with Sumatra that is more likely to affect Singapore and Peninsula Malaysia, the combine efforts are on the Sumatra front.

Well, with peat fire, it is fire that not only burns on the surface forested areas but also the sub-surface top layer and this is very difficult to put out. The surface may appear to have stopped burning but after sometime it may resume burning again as the burning as the peat fire may light everything up again.

I think, the haze have conditions have improved significantly but not forgetting that the bulk of which is wind induced and that is the smog brought about by the wind.

If the wind is blowing South Westerly, the Sumatran smog would most affect us and in the event that the wind is coming from the Kalimatan side and blowing in the north westerly directions, the Kalimatan smog that is less contain will affect us and the intensity from that area would be more severe.

Quite frankly, with the vast area and the Chinook's 5000 litres per trip, it is a very costly and slow process and as I have said, with peat fire, the dosing would be extra difficult.

Anyway, we have to live with it and let the countries participating in the fighting of the fire do their job.

Let's not dose their spirit.

I think in a two to three week's time, when the North East Monsoon starts, the more southerly wind will change the position ( and the haze positions would be a whole lot better ) and bring the smog towards the Indonesian Archipelago.

Every year, the haze does not fail to not return. It has been the case since decades back.

The first time i can remember is the '97 one. tat the 1st year I know where caught big fire and no psi broadcast then.
