Current Mobile and Internet Plans

There are still a good amount of old folks, students, NS man, maids, lower income workers or a customer who simply wants pure simply budget mobile plan which doesn't bundle up with data cable, sms and app uses.

My grandma and parents aren't educated so they won't ever need nor ever use any sms, local data usage, download any applications etc. The only mobile plan for such users is SingTel iOne SuperValue (80mins talktime, 50 sms/mth). But for such plans it will cost them a lot of $ to get a phone even with 2 years contract. There should have more choices from M1 and Starhub for such users.

They are forced to subscribe and pay at least $40 for un-use service like "free data usage", "free 800 sms" etc. Where are those $20+ plans that better suits the needs of such user?

Currently only starhub offering 100mbps fibre plan at $39.90. Average starter price for other isp are about $50 already. On budget = don't need to enjoy "basics" anymore? Owning cell phone are basic already and is "needed" for old folks to stay in contact with family members and seek help when needed.

Average a couple have like 1-2kids only. So the burden is like .... ($40+$10 for extras like caller id, gst etc)X2 for parents mobile plans $100, if both your grandparents are still living from both family = $100X2=$200. Wants to add a cam at their place so you don't have to always goes down to watch what is going on for them? Or to keep in contact with them? Old folks may have issue explaining stuff so having web cam is handy when they wants to show you something w/o you traveling all the way to their house each time. $50 X 3 for internet for both grandparents and parents, didn't include our own internet if we aren't staying with parents. All these do add up to ALOT monthly. $100+$200+$150 for staying in contact only, didn't add monthly supporting fee and their extra medical cost when fall sick and regular medical check up.

How many can really cope?

Dun M1 have a diy plan? Mix n match what you need. Under the $20 mark.

Singtel has those 20 plus plan with little or no data plan.

To add caller ID, that's $5.

All in, doable for under $30 a month. That's excluding the bundle discount that many are using. Putting the lines under their account to enjoy 10-20% discount off the bill type.

try hi-card or prepaid cards cheaper , 18 dollars permth, or if u want a post paid one , it would only cost 19.90 for no data, no sms plan 80 mins free talk from singtel.

as for broadband , there is always m1 fibre cheapest in the market , 39sgd for 100 mbps with free modem thrown in , if i recall. as of last mth just install it for a friend.


i would suggest you go down the shops and ask instead of searching on webby , they are not really very up to date on current offers.

Actually you finding solutions or you want to complain? This one difficult to say... no offence.... if cannot afford then dun own a mobile phone.... back to basics.... last time everybody use pager also have to live with it... who to blame now? Lol cant imagine last time using pager when pple paged me in the bus if urgent then get down from the bus and find public phone... the best part want to use public phone oso must queue...

Anyway singtel oso got the $15 plan.... it is called ione supervalue

Small market with no competitors and they can do whatever they want. Get a prepaid card will be a better choice. U only pay for what u use.

You can actually opt for share plan. Im on smartsurf premium and i have my parents using share plans which share the airtime, data and sms from me. The cost is only $12-$13 more

Has Singtel pulled out their cheapest non data iOne SuperValue plan? I can't seem to find it on their website anymore, although I am sure it was there like one month ago.

I know there's this Starhub "business" plans. For mobile.... As long as you can find a registered company owner.

The Smartsurf Premium has about 20% discount, free caller-id, free auto roaming, recontract every 12 months, cheaper phines to purchase.
Not sure if the deals are same as of now...
But read it will add 2gb for every shareplus plans added.

Mid plans like Smartsurf Value, sign 2 lines get 2 phones at $0. Free 24 months caller-id, 10% discount.
Also possible for shareplus with 2gb.

Not sure what Smartsurf Lite have thou.

Current having hub club with SH. Total have 5+1 lines under them in family. So 1 line not able to get discount. With 1 line as shareplus.

Fibre - M1 and SH have one of the lowest plans.
But still can grab plans with lower speed on cable witj lower bills.

For mobile + fibre only. M1 is one of the best bet with calling 3 M1 numbers for free.
And you get some monthly discount.

ST is still one of the most expensive telco.

I've just emailed the agent for SH business offers. Awaiting reply. It's almost like normal CIS plans. Just thst you dun have to be an employee working under those coy. The bill can be sent to your home address.

for singtel, there is this Flexi SuperLite @ $27.90. if sign-up this plan with 2 years contract, can get a phone free. eg. nokia 520, samsung galaxy ace 2, htc desire x n sony xperia L.

I recommend you to read this thread. I guessed prepaid plan are more suitable for you grandma & parent...

Paid as low as $17 every month Free caller id/ 500 local SMS/ 120 minutes local outgoing calls /Free incoming calls; & 200MB of local data.
Troublesome part is have to remember to do top up every 30days.
For phone, just buy those cheap one from 7-11 or when you & sibling upgraded handset, passed them the old phone!

My grandma uses a "prepaid" card I think, as she said to retain the number she had to top up $20 every six months. But she now has over $100+ stored in the card and she don't make much calls. We use it like a pager and for emergency contact.

I'm trying to figure out if she can use that $100+ stored value to "pay" for next 6 months .....

if singtel, yes, can b done. dial *398# for option to extend the validity by 90 days for $1.40 only (current promotion rate). with the $100+ stored value already there, jz keeping extending every 90 days. no need to top up till 50 yrs later!!!

Thanks! Now I don't understand why she had to go to neighborhood shop to top-up $20 every six months, if this *398# service is available for only $1.40. Why the shop assistant don't tell her, and why none of us in the family knew about it ...... until now. I'm angry because my grandpa had one prepaid card expired with over $100 in the stored value (he forgot to top-up/extend).

it could b the shops really dunno bcoz the extension of validity cannot b purchased via shops. it has to b done via hp.

the extension service, is not viable for business entities. they won't help u to save. they can only help you to spend.

somethings in life, u have to understand, and find out yourself.
